The picture on my SXRD is beautiful. Crystal clear!

So why are the words on commercials out of fucus? It doesn't make any difference whether I am watching HD in 16 x 9 or SD in 4 x 3.

Do I have setting wrong or is this a broadcast issue?

Doug:
Try turning down the contrast and see if it's still an issue. If you're dealing with white CG over a black background, your TV might be "blooming" a bit....

I'm not using a high contrast setting and the problem occurs on all backgrounds with any color lettering. Adjusting the contrast has no effect.

Hi Bug,

Following up on Mark's comment, are you running your new TV in the "torch" mode that's used to demo sets in brightly lit retail stores? That setting typically jacks up brightness, contrast and sharpness to max and will overdrive the whites, adding a "halo" effect around the letters. Try the "Cinema" or dimmest setting to see if the text lettering becomes clear.

Done that!

However, it is not all commercials, but appears to be text super imposed over a background; car commercials with special rates and down payments; the "fine" print at the bottom.

Text on the shopping channels and similar are not affected.

Does it happen on other sets in your house? Maybe it's a source issue ...

Maybe bifocals would help

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

I have those already!

My son thinks it is a source problem. Something about overlaying a low resolution text over the background.
