I'm sitting around waiting impatiently on the purolater guys! Something tells me it will be Tuesday when they get here with my speakers. The waiting is terrible! Everything else is here and set up. I got an email Wednesday saying that they had shipped and looking at the tracking this morning showed that they had "left PDX" yesterday which is really fast! I just wonder where they went after leaving "PDX"! Are they sitting in some delivery van for the whole long weekend? Does anyone know if purolater delivers on the weekends?
Anyway.... once they arrive, my system will be: Sony KDS-R50XBR1, Denon 4806ci, M60 mains, VP150 center, QS8's for surround sides and rears, SVS PB12-Plus/2. It's probably a good thing I don't have any neighbors close by!
Can't wait to hear what I've been missing!

Haven't you ever heard of people in vans selling speakers. I'm sure they are just trying them out and breaking them in for you.

Anyway, good to have another newbie around these parts. I'm sure you will love your Axioms.

Welcome, and you are right, the waiting is the hardest part. You'll be glad that you chose Axiom once you get them set up and your system feeding them some power!

Welcome Ron! That's a very fine system which should provide a lot of entertainment pleasure. We do like pics, by the way.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! If I survive the waiting, I'll be sure and post some images of the finished system. Figures I'd have my delivery on the long weekend. One extra day of waiting. I can't complain too much I guess since they made it to Portland in two days! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Just a couple of hints :

1. If you hang around the front of the house waiting for the truck your family will find things for you to do. Be subtle.

2. Many people inexplicably become sick on the day their speakers are scheduled to arrive and are not able to go into work. Don't let this happen to you.

3. Figure out the first few things you are going to play BEFORE all the boxes arrive.

4. Remember you can't buy cables and wire at 2 AM; even if YOU are excited about hearing your new speakers. Double check now

EDIT -- and, of course, congrats on the new system. You're going to enjoy it. How big is your room, btw ?

Thanks for all the tips bridgman! I did my best to look busy yesterday hoping for a Saturday delivery.... I have come to accept the fact that Tuesday is the soonest they will arrive. I'll just drink a lot until then.
Since I'm self employed (and my boss doesn't allow "sick days") I have no choice but to work on Tuesday. Fortunately, I can get done early!
I think that I will start somewhere in the 70's with music I haven't listened to in a long time to test out the new system. I even have a few good concerts on DVD waiting.
I have cables ready AND a 300' roll of 12 gauge wire here just in case!
My room is not the greatest but it will have to do! It's about 20' x 20' with vaulted ceilings and the rear wall is open in the middle (about 14') into another area of the house that is about 10' deep. The wall on the left side of the area is open at the ceiling, about 2' down and has arched doorways at each end. It's a very large space which is why I went with the plus2 sub. The good news is that there is at least 5 acres of land between me and the closest neighbor. I wonder how long it will be before they call me to ask what's going on over here!
Guess I better get some stuff done around here so I have Tuesday afternoon open.

You sound pretty well prepared

Your room is going to give you response peaks around 28, 56, and 84hz because of the square dimensions. You might want to think about putting the sub at or near the middle of a wall rather than in a corner to help smoothen the LF response.

Starting with 70s music is a great idea IMO. I still think those albums were some of the best and most careful recordings you can find. Enjoy !!
