This slang word originated with the Homestar Runner Flash cartoon series. The Homestar Runner site, homestarrunner.com, features a collection of short cartoons called Strong Bad Emails where Strong Bad, a major character, answers visitors' emails (often mocking their spelling). Strong Bad hates it when someone asks him how he types with his boxing gloves on, so when he receives such an email, he types "DELETED!" and the email disappears.

In the 50th episode, called 50 emails, Strong Bad was unavailable when he received such an email, so Homestar Runner tried to delete the email himself, but could not remember the command. When he typed "BALEETED!" and "DELTEATED!", nothing happened. He continues typing wrong commands, and eventually receives a FLAGRANT SYSTEM ERROR message.

A similar instance that also came from a Strong Bad Email is "delorted". In this instance, another character, Coach Z, was auditioning for to be Strong Bad's replacement for answering emails. His attempt at recreating Strong Bad's "DELETED!" came out as "DELORTED!" due to his accent. This slang word is also getting some (though not as much) internet usage in the same fashion as "BALEETED".
