I think this is my first post here, but I have been lurking for a long time. And well, I finally ordered my first Axiom setup in the High Gloss Cherry.

VP100
2x M50s

No surrounds at the moment as I do not have a dedicated room setup for home theater. But I do plan on QS4s when I get some more cash.

I went for the lower price models for two reasons. 1. Price 2. small room. I just do not have that big of a room and I will be sitting rather close to the televison/speakers. I just didn't have the need for anything bigger than the M50s. I would have went with M22s, but I didn't want to be constrained in the future when I do get a bigger house. HAve to plan for the future a little bit.

Now only if Axiom would get them shipped out to me, and they even do free shipping to Alaska! I am dying of anxiety!

edit: well it looks like I posted 4 other times before, no idea when however. ehhehe

Man, time flies. I didn't know I have been waiting three years to get my first set of axioms.

LOL! I joined the forum one day before you. From looking at our post counts it's easy to see which of us has the big mouth.

I think you'll enjoy the 50s very much.

Yeah, I perfer to do a lot of read and researching before I even start asking questions. So I don't end up posting that often. Just try to absorb as much info as I possibly can.

Of course I will post pics as soon as I get them. I have seen the high gloss cherry on here from previous posters, and it will look fantastic. I plan on permitting demos too, as the only other alaskan on the list is in Juneau. That is even a bit far from Anchorage.

Good choice on the M50s. I've had mine for quite a while now and couldn't be happier.

Uh...no, that's not true.

If I had gotten them in a real wood finish, maybe the Wife would have rather they be out where we could see them instead of in cabinets where they are partially hidden and the sound is compromised.

Yeah the real wood is good. Good idea!!

Seriously; I am extreemly fond of my M50s. Now if I could just get MY system back from the kids!!
Rich.

Congrats on your M50's. I expect that you'll love them - especially in the HG Cherry. My Boston Cherry M50's just sound so darn smoooooth! They're exactly what I was looking for. No, they're even better!

Welcome to the '50 Posse.

RC, congratulations on the purchase and on taking due deliberation before going forward.

Congrats on the new system. Building up one piece at a time is a great way to go, and going with M50s over M22s gives you a lot more flexibility for large rooms in the future.

I'm glad to see an M50 buyer! I'm a fan of the underdog.

I agree with John, the M50s are a nice flexible choice. They should work well as stand-alone music speakers.

This is so cool!!

So I sat down, and read this thread, and I got back up, and hugged each of my M50s.

I think I'll even give them an extra "swiftering" this morning!

Feel the M50 luv!
Rich.

Honestly, I don't think I would know the difference between the M60s and M50s. They have the same basic configuration, but the M60s could probably go louder. Much like M60 vs M80. I would assume that all three speakers sound quite simliar, just more suited to various room sizes.

You might be able to tell if you directly A/B them, but even then could you tell which model is which if you have them all calibarted for the smae SPL? Anyways, the technicalities behind loudspeaker design are rather vauge to me, so I shall stop pretending like I know what I am talking about.

I will be running the Axioms off of my old Sony STR-845 (I think that is it, but I do know that it is not an ES model.)

I also will be using a HSU STF-2 for the sub. I have had that for three years now, since bass is the major thing that is lacking in most home speaker setups. It is amazing how much a good sub can change the feel of a movie. It has been good to me for a long time, and I hope to keep it around for alot longer. When it comes time where I need M80s, I think it will also be time for a bigger sub.

Thanks guys for all the comments. You have a great community here, and I am greatful of all the knowledge you have posted and debated over.

I had the chance to perform comparison testing between M2s, M3s and M60s. The M50s are supposed to sound quite similar to M3s (which are very highly regarded) except with more/flatter bass extension and the ability to play more loudly.

While there were obvious bass differences between M3 and M60, the only difference in the other frequencies was that female vocals sounded a bit more "forward" (literally, they sounded like they were perhaps two feet closer to the listener) on the M60s.

I think F107 then commented that vocals on his M50s sounded about a foot closer than on his M3s, so we concluded that vocals on M50s should sound about a foot further away than on M60s.

This whole "forward/backward" thing is another way of saying that the midrange frequencies corresponding to female vocals are just a tiny bit louder on M60s than on M50s, and both are a tiny bit louder than M3s. Our understanding from the Axiom folks is that this is caused by the use of 6.5" woofer/midrange speakers, whose off-axis response in this frequency range is not quite as flat as the 5.5" midrange on the m60.

In other words, "all three speakers sound quite similar". There are characteristic differences between them but they are very small.

Wow! I'm speachless here! Couldn't have said it better.....well, I'd have probably used up a whole lot more words and made it a whole lot less understandable!!

But yeah! What John said!!
