I currently use the the qs8 for my surrounds. My placement is pretty much dead on for the correct placement of all speakers according to the drawings for surround that I have seen. My rear speakers I have not purchased. I am planning on mounting these from my ceiling about 2 feet behind my listening position about 4 feet above my head. In short would it be better to use one of the bookshelf type speakers in these two positons or should I continue to use qs8 or does the qs4 work ok here? I wish I could figure out how to post pictures that way everyone could see how I want to do this.

I would think Qs would be perfect. Ms may be too directional that close.

Another vote for Q's at that distance, although directionals would probably be OK as well. If you want to email me a picture I will host it for you. Take my first name, which is john, add the first letter of my username, one of those "at" thingies and the name of my ISP, which is interlog.com.

JH, if you have room, about 4-5' behind you would be better than 2'. Also, they shouldn't be directly over your head, if that's what you mean. Separate them widely enough so that one is definitely to the left back and the other to the right back of the listener(s). If you can do that, either type of speaker should be adequate, but M2s should give a little more precise localization of effects in movies intended to be in the rear. With back surrounds in play the side surrounds should be directly to the sides of the listening position.

I have about 5 or six feet behind me, but the problem is I drilled the holes in those places so I am pretty much stuck with them unless I tack the wires up and run some along the ceiling, which I don't plan on doing because of how bad that will look. They will definitely be separated left and right by about six feet, but they will be rather close to where I am sitting. I can move my love seat up a little to help, not sure how much that will help. I guess a major question would be. Will adding the two rear speakers add that much more to my experience of feeling into the movie?

I’d go with the Q’s. You have a similar situation to what I’ve got. I’ve got the M3’s in the SB locations and I’m going to swap them out for Q’s as they are just too close.

Whatever you do, definitely go with back speakers though. The 6 and 7 channel sound is way cool. There’s not a lot there, but enough to make it worth while. I’m enjoying the hell out it. Audioslave at around 100 db’s in 7.1 is better than apple pie and ice cream.

JH, how far back is the love seat from the TV? In the pics it looks pretty far back ...

I'm thinking (if you have sufficient space) about maybe moving the couch in front of the love seat, leaving the rear QS's in place for back surrounds and adding a second pair of QS at the 90 degree location (side surrounds) from the couch and elevating the love seat by a few inches?

Of course it all depends on whether or not you have the required space.
