Hi

I am considering purchasing a pair of M22s for my HT room fronts and a VP150 for the center. I originally thought I would go with a M60 pair. But then considering the size of my room (approx 1900 cu.ft), I received advice that M22s should be ok if paired with a good sub.

Here is what I am wondering..

a) What do you think of the above choice? Is it enough or I should really go for M60s?

b) Has anyone else have M22s in the above configuration in approx the same size room? How do you like it? Currently I have bookshelfs from DefTech which i feel are under powered and hence hesitating to go with bookshelfs again.

c) Any recommendations for a matching sub? I am thinking of HSU MKII

thanks
sri

a) I think the m22's would be fine, as would the 2's, 3's, 50's, 60's, or 80's.

b) Others will chime in as they have 22's in larger/smaller rooms.

c) I prefer Axiom subs, just because they have matching finishes and it is hard to beat a 500 or 600, if you can afford one.

1900 ft3 is what, maybe 13x16x9 ? That is definitely an "M22-sized room". You should think about M60s if you want to play movies "really loud", or if you want to play music "really loud" in stereo (rather than 5.1), or if you wanted to play all types of music without the sub, but otherwise (ie for all normal applications) m22s should be fine.

Would you be keeping the DefTech's as surrounds ?

Note that most of the Hsu subs are "MKII" these days, can you give us the rest of the model number ? Something like STF-2 Mk II or VTF-3 Mk II.

EDIT -- by "play really loud", I mean "you are one of those people who is likely to say "listen to THIS" and reach for the volume control. If you're one of those types, go for the M60s

13x20x7 (WxLxH) and primary seat at a distance of 152" from the screen and back row at approx 207".

Yes, atleast for now. What do you think?

sorry..I am thinking of VTF-3 Mk II. Any other suggestions? How is it in comparison to EP 350 or EP500? Not even sure whether that is a fair comparison or not.

Hmm. That's pretty far back. Not everyone agrees with what I am about to say (and the people who disagree are extremely knowledgeable) but I would be thinking about M50s or M60s at that distance.

re: keeping your DefTechs as surrounds -- I was very happy with Axiom mains & centers plus awful no-name surrounds, so you should be much better off than I was. I'm a big believer in buying the stuff you want to end up with, one piece at a time, rather than compromising so you can get everything at once.

I would put the VTF-3 a bit ahead of the EP350 myself, but the EP500 is in a different class. You probably need a pair of VTF-3's to top a single EP500 -- although for the record a pair of VTF-3s makes for a mighty nice setup.

I agree with each and every point you just made. It's like you read my mind.
