I am building a dedicated theater room. The room is 15 foot by 25 foot. My question: is there an optimum ceiling height. Currently the room has a vaulted ceiling, about 14 foot high at the pitch. I am considering a drop ceiling but wonder how far I should drop it. Any suggestions.

14 foot vaulted ceilings are nice. Not sure why you would want to cover it up with a drop ceiling. Just make sure you have enough subwoofer (possibly 2) to fill the room and add ceiling or wall treatments to curb unwanted sound colorations.

I agree, why are you wanting to eliminate the vaulted ceiling, to run wires, maybe?

Thanks for your input. I can certainly leave the ceiling and I agree it looks better. I wasn't sure what sort of sound problems it might create. The room is going under major reconstruction so now would be the time for any changes.

(John) Bridgman is the guy to ask around here.

He paid attention in Algebra (I slept) and does these types of calculations in his spare time when he's not blowing stuff up.

It's not a hand grenade, it's a heart grenade. It is given with love.
