Hi folks, some quality conversation in this group!

I'm hoping to hear some opinions on the best way to outfit 2 rooms, a theatre room and a much larger living room. I already got some great advice from Axiom support but I'm interested in a conversation here as well.

Theatre Room 18x26x8 (Movies and DVD concerts)
Currently a Sony Surround System (Sattelite) but with Harmon Kardon Bookshelves for Fronts.

Living Room 18x24 x 22'cathedral ceiling (casual music, stereo)
no speakers yet but prewired in 4 corners.

I'm determined to purchase at least 1 set of M60s after hearing them at a friends so options are....

1. Replace HK bookshelves with M60s and a new Center in theatre room and move bookshelves upstairs for casual music listening.

2. Place new M60s upstairs because of the larger air space to fill and hope that the HKs are still OK downstairs. (they have never been there yet, im building and my old room was much smaller.)

3 & 4 are if I get convinced to spend more money than I realy have....

3. Buy a 2nd set of M60s for living room and also theatre room. Probably still get a new center. Use the HK bookshelves for rears.

4.Replace the entire Surround system with a new system & move the HKs in the Living Room. I could place the old sub up there to help compensate for the roomsize (if that even helps).

I know the choice is ultimately mine but I'd like to know what some of you would do in this case.

M60s aren't the only speakers Axiom makes. Just pointing this out... You could always use the bookshelf models if they are more suited to your budget.

Thanks and understood. I have been previewing floormodels for the last 4 months since I knew I was getting a bigger home. Choices are limted in PEI to actually preview but the M60s most suited my tastes (was a fluke I even got to hear them.) My budget could go up to 2500 cdn for the larger options and I intend to slowly upgrade till I'm where I want to be over the next few years.

Murph, welcome. In my view get the M60s to enjoy music, as you describe in 2. When your budget permits, consider adding more speakers for the theater room.

Your advice matches your signature. I like it.

Current number crunching = I can afford M60s for both rooms and a vp150 to replace my dinky little Center. While otherwise clear, I found it bugs me by adding "sss" noises to speach at even mediocre volumes. There is probably a technical term for that if I knew it. The bookshelves will replace my sattelite rears and I have been happy enough with my Sony Sub so it will stay for a while.

A lot more than I planned but it satisfies all my current needs.

Next year, a new amp maybe. We will see how my old handles the new gear.

Thanks for the info folks. Speakers are on order and I scored a Denon 3608 from a buddy who is moving to Japan. $500 and a case of beer. Not bad as it's only a couple of months old and the setup microphone is still in it's original plastic. (He thought it was for voice recording.... RTFM! heh heh.)
