Hello,

Perusing the web I've read that the M80v2 has an improved
cross over and upgraded binding posts. What physical
differences distinguish the M80ti from the M80v2?

TIP: There's no reason to post the same question twice -- most of us read every section of the forum, so it's seen as annoying.

This topic has actually been covered a few times already, but I'll indulge you since I already barked at you. The v2 naming doesn't refer to a specific change. Axiom felt that enough improvements had been made to the speaker line since the original "ti" debut to warrant a change in name. The only external difference you'd see is possibly the binding posts, but again, many non-v2 speakers will already have the improved posts.

Thanks for "indulging" my question. I did a search for
M80ti and M80v2 differences on this thread, scanned 500
results, saw one pertinent question that was vaguely answer-
ed. My specific concerns are that when my M80v2 order
recently arrived the cartons were marked M80ti. One of the
cartons had a one foot rip front center, looked to be kicked
in. There was no external physical damage to the speaker
but it's enough to make me wonder if there is internal
damage. The nuts on the binding posts are clear plastic,
not solid metal as pictured on the Axiom website. Is there
a detailed picture of the M80ti binding posts on the web?
This appears to be the physical characteristic that would
distinguish the M80v2 from the M80ti. If there is another
method, aside from a paper label, I would like to know it.
Just want to be sure there wasn't a mixup, and I was in-
advertently shipped the M80tis.

TIA

The nuts on the M80v2 are clear plastic. The speaker should have a lable on the back designating as the V2.
I would doubt that Axiom has any speakers left that would be considered the original Mti, since all the actual changes to the speakers have been made in the last several years.

Just spoke to Alan at Axiom. Very helpful. The Axiom web-
site picture of the older solid metal nuts on the M80v2
speaker wire posts will be corrected to show the current
clear plastic and metal nuts. He was not happy that my
M80v2s were shipped in M80ti cartons. As to the banged up
carton, Axiom packs there speakers with a good deal of
protection. With no external speaker damage chances are
they are fine. He did recommend to listen to each driver
at a low low volume. Sometimes a hard knock will dislodge
a push connector from a wire to the driver. I work for a
company that ships a lot of product via Fed Ex and UPS.
Lost packages and damaged shipments are unavoidable no
matter how concientious the company. What's important is
how you are treated when there may be a problem. Axiom,
and especially Alan, have treated me with a degree of
custumer service that is excellent.

I think all my cartons were marked "ti" as well - I don't remember if I ordered in the ti or V2 era - since the dimensions of the products didn't change, it would be wasteful to throw out the back stock of the shipping cartons.

As for damage to the carton, we must live on the same Purolator route. Axiom employees have chimed in here about the torture testing they do on the shipping materials, but never underestimate the ability of a warehouse rat at the courier end in finding a way to damage the cartons. Only two of my speakers were damaged even though all but one carton was. In one case, looks like a forklift driver managed to put a fork through the carton and one the driver must have dropped off the truck.

That said, I've probably had one of the most numbers of shipments from Axiom with 6, I believe.

I wouldn't really worry about the carton taking damage unless you see or actually hear a problem with the speaker... the floating inner packaging they use is very resiliant.

Give them a call on the ti and v2 question, though.
