Anyone have any tips for uncompressing pushed in dustcaps? My cousins were over, and I mistakenly assumed they were mature for their age (12 and 10). They seemed to have played 'who can shove the dustcaps in the deepest' with my tweeters and woofers. I had a mini peoples court session this morning at breakfast while pointing to the evidence (a removed woofer). I didn't place any blame, I simply said it wasn't a good thing for speakers, and in the future try to avoid jamming your fingers into them...accidentally.
Anyone know any way to get em back out, my tweeters look horrible...I had to chain two cigarettes just to keep from flipping out. Any advice is appreciated

Darn Adam, that is to bad. I've had luck with woofer caps using tape, wrap it around your fingers and gently touch/pull...touch/pull...etc... Try clear tape first, then maybe masking tape, and duct tape as a last resort. Can't help you on the tweeters.

Actualy, another way I've use a vacuum cleaner attachment, carefully move the round attachment towards the cap and it will pop out.

Well, the dust cap on the woofer isn't too bad - a little tape should do it. Just make a loop, slide your fingers in, put it on the dust cap and pull out. Which tweeters do you have? The originals? If so, a vacuum may work, or you can try gently pushing around the edge to see if it pops out.

You need a Dyson with Cyclonic Tornado action. If the vacuum did not work, not sure the tape will, I had much better luck with my Sears Vacuum cleaner.

I feel your pain, same thing happened when my 5 year old niece came over. Pushed in all the dust caps on my qs8s and almost all the caps on BOTH M60s. Needless to say I was not amused.

The vacuum tip worked like a charm for me. Fortunately, the dust caps have no bearing on performance but I understand wanting your speakers to be perfect.

As Randy said, can you try another vacuum cleaner or another hose attachment?

I would like some clarification on the dust caps and performance. I have always thought a pushed in dust cap on a woofer can't affect performance? I had a guy on AVSforum tell me this was not totally true, he said it can affect dispersion?

I think it was Brent who informed me that the dust caps would not affect speaker performance. Here was his reply:

The dust cap prevents dirt from getting into the speaker specifically the coil windings. If this was damaged you would hear a raspy sound from the speaker and it appears that no damage was done. I do not see any issues for you.

Actually, its only "pop" up North. Its you crazy americans that call it soda...and the odd time there is some numpty that combines the 2 to make "Soda Pop".

Here in northern Il. we refere to it as pop also, or we just call it by it's brand name.

I like how some people refer to trucks as pickup trucks, it is either a pickup or a truck, not a pickup truck, ha ha. Many people refer to water fountains as bubblers, another one that cracks me up from up north.

I usually call them by their brand name or type (root beer). Of course, that's how I refer to most things, not by a generic category.

Now there's one I've never heard! A bubbler around here is something you stick in the lake to keep the ice around your dock open. This helps to protect your dock when the ice is going out. It also helps to get rid of pesky snowmobilers who are too close to your property! Actually, every one I've seen is marked with a big Danger-Open Water sign.

We all have our 'pickup truck' pet peeves, I think. I can't stand it when people say they're going to unthaw something - why not just say freeze, if that's what you mean? A close second is PIN Number.

Bubblers also help keep aquirium fish alive. In college, one of my friends was from Wisconsin. On the way to class one day I said "I need a drink of water from this drinking fountain". He called it a bubbler, but then he was always strange since he liked the Packers.

With the kids we just say Coke for all carbonated soft drinks, then they choose the flavor or color.

When I was in Nam, I drank a six pack of coke (real Coca Cola) every day......................................warm. It was hot in Viet Nam and there wasn't a lot of ice in the field. That's what started my coke addiction (brown liquid not white powder)

7-11 pioneered the "Big Gulp" here. When they started to get bigger and bigger, their terminology was no longer "enough" for us. Consequently, they became "Effing Amazing Gulps", or even "Super Big Effing Amazing Gulps".

My wife's great grandfather established a Pepsi bottling works (and ice company, natch) in Port Angeles, WA. He didn't much like that Coca(ine)-Cola. Needless to say, we drink only Pepsi products.

UH Dan? They spell and pronounce some things a little differently in Canada. "Litre" is how it's spelled up there. Since Amie is Canadian, she spelled it correctly.

I know. Just poking fun at US/Canada differences...it's a strange thing I like to do.

Serviette...napkin, bag of milk...jug of milk, litre...liter, we're all the same.

Oh, and to give you an idea of how much pop a collage-aged student/person drinks...at my school there is a local gas station called handy andy that sells "Polar Pops" which have 32 oz. of soda/pop/coke inside of them, a full liter. All for $.59. It's a tradition for people to drive/walk there to get a polar pop.
