What does everyone think about a QS8 for a rear center? Thanks Drew

Good.
Very good.

It works great, I have my HT pics in the HT thread right now and the angles I have my surrounds and rears are nowhere near ideal. The rear center faces more directly into the room instead of at a 45 deg. angle to the wall.

Please explain, are you talking about a 6.1 setup where you have 1 Qs8 for the rear channel? Or, are you talking about 8.1 where you have left/right surrounds, left/right rears, and 1 rear center?

Not sure I understand your question. Many people use Qs8's for 6.1 or 7.1, including myself.

Thanks everyone for their opinion, this would be for a 6.1 set-up. I have a sofa about a foot from the rear wall and one side wall is all windows so a 7.1 set-up would not be ideal.

Hey Drew, I'm still a little off here. In regards to placing one speaker in the center of the back wall for 6.1, that would work just fine for your situation, a Q series speaker would be ideal as the 2 woofers and 2 tweeters would wrap you in sound. If your room is larger, you could even mount two speakers on that back wall for better REAR experience.

Where I'm confused is that you say the side windows, this would only affect the SIDE surrounds, that should be placed to the left/right of the listening position. So what are your plans for the side surround that will be on the side window side of the room? Are you using stands?

I have 2 M2 for my rear and will add QS8 for a rear center, no side surrounds. Hope this makes sense

I think my confusion is you keep using the term "rear". In 5.1 setups you have left/right surrounds, no rear channels. In 6.1 or 7.1, you still have the left/right channels, and then you add one or two rear channels.

If you have your left/right surrounds, which should be to the left/right of you (not on the rear wall), and your adding a Qs8 to go in the middle of them, I don't think your going to gain much by doing this. You would be better off placing a Qs8 to the left/right of you, even if they are on the back walls spread out as far as possible. Then place 1 or 2 m2's for the rear channel signals.

The Qs4's and Qs8's are intended to be used for the left/right surrounds. Since the rear channel does not get much information anyway, unless your using PLIIx, you would be better off using the m2's in that position.

I disagree here. Awhile back, QS8s were all the rage for the 6th (rear center) channel--because they have wider dispersion.

It has been stated that a direct radiating rear channel can sometimes give the impression the sound is from the front, where as the Q's just disperse the sound from that position, as I have stated I have 3 QS8's in 6.1 set up and they work great. I can hear the sounds are from the rear every time.
