I was curious if any of you out there have these finishes and could provide pictures? I've PM'd a few people I know have them, but have not heard back.

I have the ebony finish on my whole system. I don't have a way to get any pictures to you though. They won't photo well anyway, the ebony is a matte finish that reflects absolutely no light at all. The photo's on the website make it look like they have silver specks in the finish, but in truth they are all black.

Thanks man, I wonder if there is any difference in the quality of the vinyl wrap on standard versus customer vinyls, or is it just more selection? My Mansfields are top quality...

I think it's just more choices. A friend has some Axioms with the stock finish and there doesn't appear to me that there is any quality gap between our speakers.

As far as I know the difference between custom finishes and stock finishes is that Axiom routinely builds speakers with the stock finishes, prefabricates stacks of MDF sheets with the stock vinyl, and loads multiple speakers onto a single big panel of pre-vinyl'ed MDF, while custom finishes have to be made as-ordered and so lose a lot of production efficiencies. The custom-ness probably implies some extra care throughout the process ("don't put your coffee on that M60, it's a custom order ) or we would see Factory Outlet speakers with custom finishes more often.

As someone who has both types of vinyl (custom and standard), I don't believe there are any quality differences between the two. They're both very nice. Although I'd love to get matching QS4s sometime...

I can add in here, I've spent a lot of time handling samples of both the custom shop and standard stock finishes - all of them in fact. And while there are some "weight" differences between them, they all seem a near identical quality.
Maybe one of the Axiomites might give their $0.02 on the manufacturing process, but as far as the raw material goes, it's all very good.

There is no difference in quality between the standard and custom vinyls offered by Axiom. We keep the standard vinyls in stock and the custom vinyls are special ordered. Hope this helps.

Yes, I know, but I meant that Amie was first. Then she gained SonicFox as the 2nd (known) female here. Now another. Sorry for the confusion.
Now, back to the color topic...

What happened to Gina?
Anyway, back on topic. So is there anybody out there with pictures of these colors? Also looking for Buffalo Oak. I found JimCarr by searching but he hasn't posted for over a year. Daphoid has Charcoal, but I'm curious if this color has changed over the years, his seems lighter than the website?

Axiom does samples of your choice of veneer and grille cloth from the custom shop. That would clear things up right quick. Bren R.

Is that a height joke Peter is surprisingly tall, too, you know.
Don't forget about Jack's niece in TX. She's not around much anymore, either.

Yeah, when I wake up in the morning and can't see my head in the mirror, it still surprises me. That's how surprisingly tall I am.

Well I found these pictures from Daphoid back some time ago. They look pretty nice from the front, but the side view makes them look a little lighter in color than the Axiom website. hmmm Now if I could compare Ebony.

Thanks so much Rik for posting that picture. If you look at Daphoids front shot above of the Charcoal, it also looks cool. However, his side shot makes it look to light for me, maybe it was his camera or room lighting.
Anyway, I really like the Ebony. Amie from Axiom described it once as similar to a "powder coat" finish look that comes on some televisions. I like it a lot more than the standard black oak.

Amie is right, but I think the finish is even more like the one you find on computer cases.

Here are my charcoal shots for what it's worth. The room lighting was a little tricky so they came out worse than I expected.

Wow,
After viewing these photos, i wish they had black oak in the custom section and either ebony/charcoal in the standard finishes section...
They look ALOT more attractive than a black oak vinyl. In my opinion, if you are ordering a black speaker that isn't real wood, it should be like these.

I agree. Do you think if Axiom decides to make the Ebony a stock color that I'll get a refund on my upgrade costs?

Oooh you found my unpacking photos! Those are 2.5 years old already, wow! As for the charcoal smoke, I quite like it. I didn't want black because "everyone" gets black, it's the default color for everything, and I figured this is a little bit different Here's another picture: Notes: - The camera lens is dirty - We no longer own that camera, it broke :P - I fight a losing battle with my sister's golden retriever to keep her fluffs of hair / dirt off my speaker grilles - They are really nice gray finish, I quite like them. The slight glow you're seeing on these pictures is partially due to the old camera (it favored red) and the lighting in the room (ceiling) has a very warm glow to it) They do look quite lovely though, look at the back of the QS8, and the other pictures linked by SirQuack, they're a pretty good representation I'd say. - D
