I'm a 33 year old life long metal lover. I am always on the look-out for new (definately not NU) metal that will also sound good on my axioms. I do like other music (Absentia sounds like heaven now on the Axioms) but my first and only true love is metal.

On another post I explained that I found out I had a problem with my Yamaha receiver which made all my music sound harsh and thin. Long story short, I now have a panasonic receiver and even "poor" recordings such as And Justice for All now sound damn good, and good recordings...well they are keeping me up way to late at night.

Now that I have a system that makes me smile everytime I turn it on, I am back on the prowl for new music.

My absolute lifelong favorite albums are Metallica's 2nd, 3rd and 4th albums. Others come and go, but these are the gold standard. Orion may be my favorite piece of music ever...

Other favorite albums include:

Scenes from a Memory - Dream Theater
Morningrise - Opeth
Operation Mindcrime - Queensryche
Burnt Offerings - Iced Earth
Light of Day Day of Darkness - Green Carnation
Prison of Desire - After Forever
The Sound of Perserverance - Death
Seasons in the Abyss - Slayer
Tool - 10,000 Days
Rust in Peace - only great Megadeth album
The Chemical Wedding - Bruce Dickinson - sound quality sounds dead on this one, even on the new receiver

The metal albums I have that have very good sound quality:

Ghost Reveries/Blackwater Park - Opeth
Most of Dream Theater, especially Awake
With Oden on our Side - Amon Amarth
Christ Illusion - Slayer
Load and Reload - Metallica (too bad the music itself isn't as good)
Glorious Burden - Iced Earth
10,000 days - Tool
DCC Gold version of Ride the Lightning

I am looking for 2 things. Metal that is recorded well, and metal that fits my taste that I may not know about. I have around 300 albums, and now that music sounds so damn good I need to greatly increase this number.

thanks!

Just one note: The Gold Master of Puppets is way, way better than the Gold Lightning.

Also check out Dust for Life.

Dillinger Escape Plan, From Autumn to Ashes, Nora, Caliban, ...

Caliban is the most metal of this bunch but all are a really good listen.

Cheers,

Never heard Caliban (I've heard of them), I'll have to check them out.

Someone sent me a copy of the gold Master of Puppets (at least he said it was the gold version). It sounded exactly like the original to me. Sounds like maybe it wasn't the gold version? Would it have been an obvious difference?

Now that this thread is open, I feel comfortable asking this question:

Do some of you feel Maynard's voice is slightly too forward in 10,000 days? I am listening with M80's.

Cameron;

I'm a 52 year old metal head. With an album collection of over 300 you probably have some of the great oldies. Black Sabbath has always been a favorite of mine. Do you have or have you tried, Black Sabbath the album or Paranoid? I just recieved my Axioms a month ago and am currently listening to things I missed out on while the kids were young. I feel like a kid in a candy store with 80's music. Right now I'm getting into Metallica, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. By next summer I should be ready for the 90's! My son's are just shaking their heads and I'm sure they are wondering what's going on with dad! But, they both agree with my selections.

The bass line in Orion springs to mind. Funny, I felt the same way about the Gold Ride the Lightning vs. the regular one.

Well, that, plus the disc is gold.

I'm ashamed to admit that I have the Sabbath classics on cassette... never got around to getting them on cd. So they sound pretty good on the axioms huh?

I'm a reformed headbanger - does that count?

In among my collection of old and new punk are these chunks of Métal Lourd:
AC/DC - Fly on the Wall, Who Made Who, Stiff Upper Lip
Anthrax - Persistence of Time, Attack of the Killer Bs
Black Sabbath - We Sold Our Soul for Rock N Roll, Never Say Die
Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to My Nightmare, Dada, Constrictor, Trash
Faith No More - Introduce Yourself, The Real Thing, Angel Dust
Faster Pussycat - Faster Pussycat, Wake Me When It's Over
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
KISS - Greatest KISS
Loco - Dead World
Metallica - Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, the Black Album, Garage Inc.
Motorhead - The Collection
Ozzy - Diary of a Madman, Tribute, Ozzmosis
Scorpions - Deadly Sting : The Mercury Years
Twisted Sister - Big Hits and Nasty Cuts
X-Engine-X - Distortia, Inner Demons

... a selection rebought on CD to replace the cassettes that are probably still in my parents' basement.

Bren,

I just bought Angel Dust last night off of Amazon. Is it all it's cracked up to be? The reviews are some of the best I've seen for an album. Also, how does is sound on Axioms?
