Ok the speakers have arrived and they are wired up . Did a quick test and they sounded great, compared to the DefTech Pro1000A. Any suggestions for test movies to watch to get a feel for the speakers?

Onething that I noticed with the EP350 was that it required the receiver volume to be high before I saw the green light. I was playing the Mission Impossible 3 menu music and had to turn the volume on the Denon 2807 to ~-16db before I saw the green light on, if I turned it down one db it would turn to red pretty quickly . Also, to hear the rumble I really have to turn on the volume on the ep350 to 3o'clock position which is not great.

I ran the Denon's auto speaker setup and it set the m60's as large is that what folks run the m60 as in your setup?

Thanks for the help. Looking forward to enjoying the Axiom.

Congrats!

A suggestion on the sub--make sure your Denon hasn't set the output level to -12 or something similar. That could be the source of your issues; I've seen it before with an EP500 and a Denon.

Deepak, on keeping the sub "awake", it's helpful to set the sub output level(this isn't the main volume control) on the Denon higher so that it puts out more voltage into the sub amp. The level control on the sub itself would then be lowered a little to keep the same overall sub output level.

On the Denon's auto calibration, it sets the M60s "large" because they have enough bass capability to justify that setting, but since the EP350 does even better in that area, it's suggested that you manually set all the speakers "small" with an 80Hz crossover. Allow the sub to handle the lowest bass frequencies which it does best. Enjoy.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Ah, so the stand-by bug strikes again. I had a whole thread trying to figure it out, with not much luck. As JohnK mentioned, crank the sub trim up on the receiver (I went as high as it could go) and calibrate the level using the volume on the sub. If need be, drop all your other speakers a few db's to create a larger difference in volume so that even more voltage gets sent to the sub for the same overall SPL output(as long as you can still turn the volume high enough for sufficient SPL). For me, I had the mains at -3 and the sub at +10, which 'usually' kept the sub on at decent levels. This was the best I could do to keep it on. My final solution was to upgrade to an EP500, but that's a hefty inventment to consider.

So I read another thread about this also.
I wonder if the other guy sent his sub back and this guy got it out of the factory outlet ?

Is this issue more common than that, and is it limited to the EP350?

Personally , I wouldnt like having to crank up or down the gain on the reciever that much. I may be excessive, but it seems like a way to introduce extra noise into the ciruit.

I dont think the problem has ever happened to me with EP175, but I probably dont expect much out of the sub at low volume levels, so maybe i just have missed it.

I read the whole thread related to your move from ep350 to ep500. Will try the suggestions on increasing the sub input level on the Denon to see if that helps. If not will have to look at alternative sub's, EP500, Hsu VTF2-MK3 (leading contender right now due to cost) or SVS PCi 20-39, SVS NSD / Plus lowend boxes.

Randy, I am the other guy and I don't believe he has my sub since it has been sitting in my front entrance for almost a week waiting for pick-up .

dvaidya: If you can muster up the extra cost for the EP500, I would definately recommend it. It is an amazing sub and the extreme bass extension adds a new level to both music and movies. I'm not sure what finish you went with, but a big EP500 in High Gloss Cherry is breath taking. Have a look in my other thread for some pics if you're interested. I haven't heard the other subs you mentioned, so I can't comment on them in comparison. I too was also considering both SVS and HSU, but once I had seen the finish on the EP350 I didn't want to go back to the big-black-box look . Just my 2 cents.

Impossible. We've been told that the Factory Outlet only sells brand new items that have a very slight cosemtic flaw. Any returned items are sold to employees at discounted prices.

Found the following on SVS's FAQ website for good sub-test scenes and music.
