Here's an interesting website, apparently there is voting for the "new" seven wonders of the world for July 7, 2007.

7 Wonders of the World

I'd vote for some of your home theaters.

I was disappointed.

i thought there would be things like

electricity
running water with toilets
airplanes and space travel
computers
manufacturing with standardized parts
the rifle
telephone
etc

but it was mostly falling apart buildings

I guess that shows my lack of culture
and self importance as most of the things i could think of happened in the relative present time.

No, Randy, I like your much more expansive list better. By a wide margin. I think a "wonder of the world" should be something that is immediately inspiring and/or awesome to anyone who comes in contact with it. I'd prefer to not glorify negatives. You know, would a first viewing prompt someone - regardless of language or education - to think a thing was "wonderful". Along with the things you mention, I rather like the idea of a Symphony Orchestra as a wonder of the world.

I suppose sustainability and knowledge-based wonders somewhat limit the conversation. Pity.

Interesting, though.

Well as someone who recently came into contact with electricity on a circuit that i did not realize was still switched on, I concur that it can be a very "awesome" and "inspiring" wonder. Awesome in a "just drank 5 cans of Redbull" sense and inspiring, more in a creative hair-styling sense.

That being said, as someone who has been lucky enough to witness a few of these structures first-hand, they are truly remarkable. To me it is more a sense of, "how in the world did they build that 800 years ago!" Of course, history has always been something that has greatly interested me (despite my complete lack of knowledge in this area).

Yea,
I need to get out more.
Living in Indianapolis for 15+ years, never been to chicago.
Nor California or NYC. did drive past Buffalo NY once.
I get impressed when they put taco bell and pizza hut in the same drivethrough.
I did go to Sedona AZ a couple years ago, and it was them most beautiful stuff I had ever seen. Pictures dont do it justice but here is one anyway. can never decide which photo to show
