All- Not sure if you have heard of this or not, but lately I've noticed if I watch a TV program and I encode in PLII Movie, then after a while, it reverts back to 2 channel. If I flip the channel to a DD 5.1 source and flip back, it is okay again for a while.

Here is the setup:

Scientific Atlanta 8300HD w/optical connection to HK7300.

Is the problem the receiver or the cable box? Have not tried this on a DVD yet, but wanted to see if other have experienced this.

I have this cable tuner.

Let me ask you this, Is it during a commercial when it drops out of PL II ? I notice when i watch football games on a HD channel, it is constantly switching audio modes not only during commercials, but when they switch to updates from the 'studio' and clips of other games.

I've never seen mine switch modes in the middle of a scene in a movie, but i really dont watch any tv shows. I can say it has never done it on a dvd, but I have Denon not HK.
