Just read about Craigsub's updated post in another thread on this site... updated today (1/18/07), I guess. Bold items are the "updated" items. The prices were added by somebody else on the "official Craigsub thread":

1. $3200 + (shipping?) JL Audio Fathom 113: 103 points.
2. $4995 + (shipping?) Velodyne DD-18: 100 points.
3. $2150 + (shipping?) ACI Maestro: 97 points.
4. $2200 + (shipping?) JL Audio Fathom 112: 95 points.
5. $999 + ($105 Shipping) Hsu VTF-3 HO + Turbo: 94 points
5a. $899 + ( $80 shipping) Hsu VTF-3 HO w/o Turbo: 92 points
6. $649 + (75 shipping) VTF-3 Mark III w/o turbo: 91 points
7. $1299 + ( $99 shipping) SVS PB12-Ultra: 90 points.
7T. $1200 + ( $0 shipping included) Axiom EP-500: 90 points
8. $1299 + ( $99 shipping) SVS PB12-Plus/2: 87 points.
9. $599 + ($50+ shipping) PB12-NSD: 86 Points
10. $1099 + ($100 shipping) Rocket UFW-12: 85 points
11. $199 + ($43 shipping) Rocket X-Sub: 78 points
12. $99 + (shipping?) Rocket Tyke: 60 points

I'm currently set on an EP500. However, the addition of the Hsu VTF-3 MkIII at $725 shipped has me ready to hop over to Hsu and save $475 (or $295 over outlet).

My main question: I've seen multiple people in different places use Craigsub's list as a reference. However, he appears to be another amateur reviewer (albeit a sophisticated one), so I wonder what peoples' thoughts are on the accuracy or value of his list? I don't suspect anything fishy, really (like Craig's real name being Dr. Craig Hsu)... just curious as to your thoughts. $725 for an allegedly better sub than the EP500 and SVS Ultra is pretty darn intriguing.

Craigsub has been a member here for some time, and from the posts I have read of his, both here and at AVS, I believe you can trust that his ratings are not biased.

I agree with Dave as to the trust worthiness of Craigs list. I find it interesting the VTF-3 MK3 was in the the 10 best list. That says something about Dr. Hsus ability to design a great sub at a great price.

To say the least, being in Canada, I am more than happy that I ordered the EP500...right now the VTF-3 MK2 at the canadian HSU store is $999 including shipping. My future EP500 came to just $1223 from the Factory outlet (CAD).

The new VTF-3 MK3 will probably be around $1099 CAD (just speculating) from the canadian store.

Even at $200 more, the EP500 has a digial DSP and the finish matches my speakers, and its near the middle of craigs top 10 subs. I can't wait for it to arrive.

No doubt the Hsu subs are not as good of a deal in Canada but for us in the U.S. they seem to be one heck of a bargin.

I know Craig personally. He is a solid citizen and an exceptionally astute / sophisticated bass head who knows his way around subwoofers.!

I'd look to his advice much before considering other input, including professional reviews.

I would say that if you are looking to buy any sub on that list, you will get an exceptional performer. Lots of good choices.
