I may have discovered one of the best 2.0 computer speaker systems out there.

I have had my HP Media center computer for a few weeks now, and everything has gone well.....except for the cheesy 2.1 "upgraded" HP speaker system I had them add to the bundle.

Without boring everyone with the details, let's just say that, even though I connected everything correctly....the cheesy sub squealed in a "deliverance" kind of way.

After several long conversations with HP "techs", (who sounded like they were in India, and had never heard of a sub-woofer) it became apparent that I would have to do something on my own.

I had had my eye on these philips 80watt 2.0 PC speaker system at (of all places) Wal-mart.

I got on the web and found reviews on Amazon.com about them, and the 7 reviewers were raving about them.
Again, to make along story short.........I bought them!

WOW!.....THEY ARE FANTASTIC!

They are Philips, model MMS321 2.0 80WATT, stainless steel (on the face) multimediaspeakers. (Dell sells them in black too).

I don't know where to start....they are THAT good!
I had read the reviews on Amazon.com about how good they were, and they were right. These speakers are WAY better than I expected, (I'm sorry I can't provide a link for those who may be interested )....I RECOMMEND them to all.

EVERYTHING is great, from the stainless look, to the no grille cloth, (to see the metal tweeter,cone-less metal speakers, and the bass radiators) to the fact they have plenty of power, (80 watts) AND there is so much tight bass...............I no longer NEED a sub.
They appear to be made VERY well, even the packaging is first class.

Anyhow, it is nice to have a product in this day and age, that I can get excited about, and recommend to others.
If any of you need PC, or multmedia speakers, you can find info on the web about these.

They range from $72.00-$92.00 on line. (mine were $59.95 at Wal-mart)

P.S. This is reminiscent of, and ALMOST as much fun as, when I got my M60s.....now I can rock, when on line too......with my new MINI-M60S.

I'll have to check them out the next time I'm in Morris. I was there just last night visiting family.

Heh. I like how they even label the bass driver, so you know what it's for.

I'm sure they're better than my decade-old Yamaha YST-M15 computer speakers and YST-MSW10 sub.

Very good Larry, but even better(unless they're in a different room)would be to use your M60s.

Peter, the "bass" label is so that the bass electrons know which driver to go to.

Rick:

Hurry,.....only ONE set left!

Pmbuko:

Thank's for the link.....Yes, I could have done without that little touch.

JohnK:

The M60s are out in the living room....... they might be a wee bit much for the den.

The only minor disappointment with the Philips speakers is they have the one wire solution, with a single green plug. Sadly, I won't be able to bi-wire them

These ARE REALLY great speakers, all joking aside.

A little overkill here too... I'm using the 1st home speakers I ever purchased. Large Advents from the early 80's. Weird lookin tweeters and 10 inch woofers. Tried a Klipsch 4.1 PC speaker system a couple years ago and oddly enough the sub output didn't match the Advents.

Well, since this thread has taken a turn, add me to the "somewhat" overkill posse.

What you see is a set of M3's, a 70w/ch Luxman integrated amp, and a spare set of 10" car subs - driven by an old Axiom AX500 plate amp.

I think Shawn wins.

At work, I have crappy Cambridge 2.0 little black cubes. They suck, but I didn't have to pay for them.

Mrs. Tuttle has a Cambridge 2.1 system that sounds pretty good until you turn it up.

The computer in the play/exercise room has some old Boston 2-ways hooked up to an old Yamaha inegrated amp. I am contstantly amazed how good they sound near-field.

Larry, thanks for the tip on the Philips speakers. I was glad to see it was a cost-effective solution. I'm not that keen on those Klipsch, etc. 2.1 systems that cost ~$300. For that kind of money, I think it's better and cooler to get a pair of decent bookshelf speakers and an integrated amp.

Now,..ALL you guys KNOW....that, I posted regarding, "regular" PC desktop..........DESKTOP! speakers....you know the kind, with the little green plug that goes in the back of a PC.

These Philips 80watt 2.0 speakers, will REPLACE the cheesy add- ons that come with some PCs..(or worse, the monitor's built-in speakers).

They should fit in with MOST people's home, or office desk configurations............AND then, you won't need all that other....er, "equipment".

After looking on line again, I find myself wanting to get the MMS322 anodized black versions.

I'm not sure why.....it may be: "collect-them-all-itus".

I have a JBL Creature 2.1 set that I use in my office at work. I ordered it from Amazon for like $50. They aren't Axiom's, but I think they are just fine for casual background music or the occasional game of Battlefield, not that I would ever do that at work . So long as you have room on your desk for the Darth-Vader-helmet sub module, they're great.

The whole look of them remind me of Gloop & Gleep from the Herculoids, for some reason.

Would one go for Axiom M2 or M3 for a pc/bedroom setup?

My vote is M3s... they stand alone better than the Killer Dwarfs.

The 80s called.

They don't want Canadian metal back.

I'm trying to figure out how the "fix" at the end of the video was an improvement over the middle part.

And did that song actually have any verses, or just the chorus? The pain!

Whilst I do love listening to music through my PC speakers I'm afraid I would be the subject of scorn and abuse if I took them on a date.

PS: Some of them are quite sexy though...

Look what you went and made me do, LT61.

I'd been looking for some decent 2.0 speakers to replace the old 2.1 Altecs I had. I was thinking about Creative or Klipsch, but this thread changed my mind.

The Philips speakers aren't too shabby.

Yeah, saw them in Toronto at a dive called Larry's Hideaway, just down from Maple Leaf Gardens.

You won't get very good stereo separation with those things so close together. Have you though about pushing that left wall out a bit and purchasing some $90 speaker mounts so you can put your $70 speakers on the sides of the desk?
