The Soundstage review of the M40 mentioned a slight bit of vocal chestiness or heaviness when compared to the M3Ti, which I guess seems typical in the battle between monitor and tower. Would the extra driver of the M50 actually help out with regard to this slight problem or make for a harder- to- drive-cleanly speaker? Could this increase in heaviness be ameliorated by placement in a larger room? The partnering amp would be the 50 wpc NAD C340.

The extra driver in the M50s allows lower frequencies to be attained and higher volume levels without distortion, and this will help with the mid range performance. The voice coil design used in the M50 woofers differs from the M40 and therefore makes the two models just as easy to drive for the amplifier.
