Hi... My first post and I am newbie to High End HT gear. Learning what I can.... :-) I actually purchased a set of QS4's for my Surrounds on a 5.1 system. My question however is if my placement is wise.

I Plan on mounting them to a wall that our sectional couch leans up against. My room is really small and tight so really the only option is this wall. I am wondering if the sound will be diminished or not. The only other option would be to hand the speakers from the ceiling at a 90 degree to 120 degree location to the listening area.

Has anyone done this and if so, how were the results?

Thanks in advance

Stidd

I think a basic drawing of your layout would help alot.

You can always use the FMCB from Axiom to mount your QS4's to the ceiling...

Generally, you want your surrounds for 5.1 to be to the left/right sides of the listening area, not behind you. For 7.1, then yes, the rears are behind you, but the left/right are still to the sides.

If you have no options, I would at least spread the two Qs4's as far apart as possible, but don't get to close to the side walls as the tweeters are angled and this would affect the sound.

I happen to have an older photo of the room...

It is still set up this way. We have a different TV but this is the same setup for the most part...

You could always try makeshift stands (ladders with the Q's on cans as some have done before or some really good friends to hold them ) and set them in different spots to see where they sound best and then you will know if you can hang them on the wall(which should still be ok, the QS's are very forgiving of placement) or cieling mount them.

Hi Stidd. Welcome.

The QS surrounds are very forgiving when it comes to placement. If your couch is right up against the back wall, you can hang them on the back wall from 1 to 6 feet above your head, and within a few inches of the corners. Or, if you'd prefer, you can ceiling mount them to the side of the listening area. Whatever floats your boat.

You are limited it looks. I would say the back wall will work ok. I would say the speaker would work best if you put it just on the other side of the window, this way one of the tweeters would bounce off the wall by the lamp and give you a good affect. The one closer to the door would have to go between the light switches and picture...

Thanks for the awesome advise...

What about angle? Straight Forward? Or should I point them towards the center of the room? Thanks for having patience with a newb... My little guys will really appreciate it when they watch the Pixar films Oh who am I kidding.... It's mainly for me!!! LOL

I'd point them straight forward. The QSx speakers are pretty omnidirectional, so I don't think angling them will really provide much of a difference than straight forward.

The Q's should always be facing straight away from the wall, not angled towards the middle of the room. They are designed to be flush with the wall.
