Does anyone know what receivers out now support Hdmi 1.2. Im considering using my ps3 as my new Sacd player and sending my Denon 3910 and 3805 off to eBay if I can find a decent receiver that fits the bill. Thanks

Yamaha and Marantz to the best of my knowledge. The 07 Denons will have 1.3

Thanks Mike, I'm deciding if I want to wait for the new Denons or try and find a Marantz, I know you did alot of research, is there much difference between the SR7001 and 8001, the specs look very similar.

They are basically the same unit. The 8001 does everything the 7001 plus:

Different power supply with Troidal transformer and more WPC. 110 vrs 125
It has two HDMI outputs vrs one.
It has added multi room function (don’t remember what).

And from what I can gather by participating in the “official” Marantz thread at AVS, my 8001 would appear to be the only Marantz that processes 6.1 / 7.1 discrete PMC audio streams, or post processes 5.1 PCM audio streams. I suspect that some of the users who are reporting that theirs don’t do this may have problems with buttons on their remotes. I have never been so lucky to be the ‘only one’ in a crowd where good things happen.

You can download the manual and look at the notes. They share the same manual and wherever there is a difference, the notes tell you “8001 has ***”.

I do miss some the functionality that the HK had, and presumably the demons have, but not so much that I’m loosing sleep. It sounds so friggin good, I can put up with some loss of functionality.

I does not up convert, so if that’s important to you, you’d be better off with something else.

Michael, if you're going to use the PS3 as your SACD player you don't necessarily need a receiver with HDMI 1.2 capability. A 1.2 receiver could process one-bit DSD material input from a SACD, but that isn't what the PS3 outputs. It converts the DSD from the SACD to PCM and outputs it on HDMI, so the receiver doesn't have to have the capability to process the raw one-bit data from the SACD. HDMI 1.2(or 1.3)wouldn't be necessary and you could also choose from HDMI 1.1 receivers.

Thanks John, that's great to know, makes the decision for a new receiver cheaper and easier, plus you saved me alot of time that I was spending trying to get a definative answer on that same question.
It does mention in the PS3 manual that all you need is a device compatible with linear PCM 7.1 ch to output 7.1 ch. audio from the HDMI out.
There are alot of folks on many of the AV forums that are still confused on this whole SACD-PS3 issue.

I don't know diddly about how SACD works, so I can’t offer a technical opinion on that.

I can however tell you that the PS3 does a fantastic job at playing them. My Wee Oppo 970 has effectively been fired from that duty.

If you think your audio system sounds good now, just wait till you get to hear true uncompressed multi channel surround at 48kHz per channel. As much of an improvement that HD is over SD video, the jump in audio improvement is just as big.

I'm in orgasmic bliss watching HD content, with a 2.35 ratio set up and HD uncompressed audio. The only negative is my average of reading a book week is now a book every six months or so. My brain cells are shriveling up at an alarming rate.

That's precisely what they want. As soon as enough of the world's brain cell shave died, the entertainment industry will fire all the actors, and then the only movies or TV shows you'll be able to see will star dogs wearing hats and will be filmed with fish-eye lenses.

And we'll love them.
