Curious if anyone can give me some input on this ..

I just placed an order for two m50's, 2 qs4's, and a vp100. I have these coupled with an svs sub through a panasonic xr55 receiver. Anyway, I've done a bit of reading on the mains and almost without fail people seem to feel the m60's offer significantly improved sound over the m50's in terms of midrange and more balanced output. I called up Axiom to change my order, and they suggested I instead keep the m50's and upgrade to the vp150 center.

Help? The television is in the corner of the room; the room itself is fairly large and open, with the viewing area being something like 15*15 and a vaulted ceiling. From what I had read the VP100 and 150 more or less had the same sound minus their upper end, where as the m50/60 had a different sound. Axiom seems to not agree ..

I have a setup consisting of M60's/VP150/QSR4's scheduled to arrive Wednesday. I'll let you know how it goes.

Lebaige, I'm a bit surprised to hear of that advice. My thought would be that if you were willing to spend a little more that the M60s would be a more likely candidate.

Well that's what I thought too. I ended up swapping the M50's out for M22's and going with the VP150. The bigger center should help disperse to my room more appropriately as I have a large sectional that covers probably a 70 degree arc in front of the TV.

As for the M22's, everything I've read suggested they have a sound very similar to the M60's minus the lower end, and I have a good sub so I'm not too concerned with that side of the equation. I guess we'll see how it sounds!

I've got the M60's and VP100 center and its nice. My room is pretty large and a very open floor plan. Distance is about 12 ft from center and the VP100 directs sound very well. I would go for the M60's although I have not heard the 50's. I was in the same boat as you a couple weeks ago and went with the 60's instead.

I home auditioned the M22s vs the M50s a couple years ago. I ordered the M50s because I felt that I wanted a speaker with more on the bottom end and I didn't think there would be much difference in the midrange between the two. Initially, I didn't hear that much of a difference. But, after a couple of weeks the differences became very clear and I just couldn't justify replacing the bookshelves with the more pleasing sounding M50s. Having said this, I will say that if I had never heard the M22s and had originally ordered the M50s, I would probably be in that club right now. If I would upgrade to a tower now, I would have to leap past the M50s and would probably go with the M80s. The M22s have spoiled me, and left me with an appetite for more, although I know the room doesn't need more. One of these days, I won't be able to resist and will order something I don't need.

But, if I win that ecoustics M3 giveway at the end of the month, that might relax my itchy ordering finger.

I find it the opposite for me, the M22s are every bit of a floor standing speaker when paired with the EP500.

I was listening to some jazz a couple days ago, turned the sub down -5db, and the acoustic bass was PERFECT, there was no "overpowering" of the sub, the sub just put the bass notes that the M22s couldn't. It sounded like a floor stander to me.

The only reason I would find need to upgrade now is a bigger room, the M22s are just a dream when paired with a good sub.

I'm delighted you went with the M22s and I'm puzzled by the advice you got. It's not what I would have suggested. The M60s and the M22s have more midrange and upper midrange clarity and detail than the M50s.

I think you'll love the M22s with your good sub, as Hutzal notes in this thread. The larger VP150 center will play cleaner and louder than the smaller 100.
