I've had my M60v2's and the VP100 v2 for a few days now and I'm extremely impressed with them, even when considering the shipping damaged 5.25" woofer on one of them, which Axiom has immediately shipped out a replacement woofer for-

-thanks again, Noreen, for providing excellent customer service!

Now, I'm going to order a sub which I feel will enhance them even more, especially at lower listening levels. I'm fairly happy with the low-end on the M60s at higher listening levels, but me being a bassy kind of guy I need more. I have my eye on the EP350v2 as a solution. I've listened to a few other brands, namely Velodyne and Mirage, and found them to be very nice. But since I'm into Axiom so much, I want to stay with them. Really, I don't mind at all being a newly hatched Axiom fanboy.

The EP500 is simply out of my price range and would probably be overkill for my listening style. My question is, I'm wondering if the EP175 might be adequate instead of the EP350. Has anyone heard both? How are they on distortion? Will the extra 2" of sub and different speaker technology of the 350 be better than the 175? I'm looking for good, deep bass for both music and movies, but especially music (Jazz and Rock). My music listening levels are louder than my movie listening level, if that might help.

Thanks for any replies and recommendations.

Steve

How large is your room Steve? That may help determine which sub to go with.....

Thanks for your reply. The living room size is 14'-5" x 20'-5" with the speakers facing the narrow side. There is an immediately-adjoining open air dining room which is 10' x 10'. My listening spot is about 12' from in front of the speakers.

I'm happy to hear the M60's are working out for you!

Regarding subs. I've read many conversations around here to the effect that subs from HSU or SVS are better than the low-end Axiom's. Not to say that the Axiom's are bad by any means. I believe you will get more bang for your buck from HSU or SVS over Axiom when we're talking $400-$800 subs.

If you really want to stick with Axiom, I'd save your pennies for the EP500. Otherwise, consider HSU or SVS. Both make fantastic subs.

I have an SVS PCi+ 20-39 and it's freakin' awesome.

I have heard the:

EP125 returned it within 30 days for the EP175.
EP175 What I currently use. I have the M22's, so it complements them well, but I would like to have a fuller mid bass.
EP500 What my brother has. ( with M60's ) All the bass I would ever need. With careful adjustment of the various trim settings and gain, I believe I could achieve bass nirvana. He hasnt taken the time and/or has the desire to fine tune his setup, so sometimes his bass is a little overpowering for my tastes.

I would gladly exchange my EP175 for a EP500, and pay the difference. Sadly, I have not heard the EP350. I would like to comment that the EP350 Does not have the DSP technology. I do realize there is a large price difference though.

Too bad you arent in the midwest, I'd let you come and audition my EP175

good luck

Randy

I am in almost exactly the same situation as yourself and I've decided on the HSU VTF-2 MkIII located here HSU $499 sub. Best bang for the buck IMHO.

Steve,

I don't know what your budget is, but if you can swing it, I'd strongly consider the HSU VTF-3 MK3.

In Craigsub's latest testing of subs, here's a little bit of what he had to say regarding the VTF-3 MK3.

Quote:

This subwoofer is pure joy. It does so many things well that it almost tied the VTF-3 HO overall. The HO is a bit more powerful in the deepest bass, and slightly tighter in its reproduction of music. Hsu Research has mentioned that the Mark III may even best the HO in upper bass, but no one on the panel heard a superiority of the Mark III to the HO on any track.

Considering the very reasonable "long term" price of $699, It is my opinion, and the opinion of the other listeners here, that the VTF-3 Mark III is the best overall value of all the subs we have had here during this process.

Also I thought I'd pass along to those who may not know, Craigsub's been fighting a serious virus, and was checked into the hospital on the 22nd.

Got a PM from him yesterday. The doctors finally figured out what was attacking him, and thought it serious enough to check him into the hospital. I'm happy to report that, though he's still in the hospital, he's on the mend. I have no details other than that the virus caused him a great deal of pain.

Yikes! Virus are scary. Unknown, painful viruses are even scarier. I'm glad to hear he's on the mend.
