Peter, You got it right on the head. Everything you described is what I am hearing through my speakers. When I connect it through a mini-jack to RCA, it sounds great, but I don't have the display features. Anyway, I had a old laptop lying around so I migrated all my iTunes to it, connected the half decent sound card to my receiver via the optical out port, hoooked up an RF remote to my laptop's USB port so I can control funtions from across the room, and viola - great sound, plus somwhat of an okay display. If I can hookup the video out then I can have my PC display on the TV and I can do everything from there. Also hooked up my OSD from the receiver to my laptop, now I can via what my OSD is showing on a window on the laptop - no need to change channels on the TV or use a different video in port.
