Okay I've noticed that it appears that the vast majority of users on this forum are guys. I'm just curious if there are any women lurking in any of these threads.

In general I don't know any women who care about a) home theatre - I've know women who said their 20" tv was good enough! b) big speakers systems. Most seem to think floor standing speakers are the work of the devil and belong in the basement...which is fine if that's where your HT is.

So where are the women?

The only female on teh boards I've noticed is Sonicfox. As far as floorstanding speakers, my wife preferred the M60's over the M22's (and I gave her the choice). Maybe she's not the norm, but I think at the price point she was considering it a piece of furniture.

My wife doesn't participate in any sort of online discussions, but she loves good music and appreciates quality sound as much as I do. She enjoys going to specialty home theater shops for demos and such, and is very picky about what things sound like and isn't afraid to tell the salesperson that they're full of it. I've had to convince her on more than one occasion that we don't need (nor can afford) $5,000/pair speakers.

So I can tell you that there's at least one woman on the planet that doesn't care if they're giant floorstanding monsters.

I have heard from Amie that she loves M80s. Also, one could point out Andrea...

Hi Ken:

I just ordered an Epic 80/500.
Ian tried to convince me I needed 4 subs but I could not get my significant other to agree.

My wife would prefer the M60/80 as well I think, only because from a style standpoint she likes the look of towers better then speakers on stands.

So where are the women, huh? Here's one more, why do you ask? I have been layn low for a while checking out this place, so I guess you called me out, lol.

Maybe one day I'll get the nerve to ask some questions about speakers, but since I'm in a dorm, I guess I can't get any towers yet, ha ha. Oh well, see ya.

I was talking to my best friend who happens to be female. I was telling her about upgrading from the M22's to M60's and as I was telling her I could see a yawn slowly appearing lol. That kinda got me thinking and it occured to me that this forum is about 99% male. Curiousity got the better of me so I thought I'd ask the question.

I definitly think speakers on stands are more of an eye sore than floorstanding speakers, hence some women's aversion to HT systems.

With this tiny dorm room I would love to put some flat speakers on the wall, but can you do that with cinder block? Stupid cheap dorm. :-(

Hey Whitney, have a look at Axiom M3! More affordable, small footprint (ideal for a dorm I think) and I have read only praise on them in this forum.

Good for her! It pisses me off that sales act like us gals are stupid. I like to put them in their place when they try to feed me full of crap.

Woo hoo, party at Dan's room - he's the man with the hook-up. I guess I'll have to check out the M3. Funny, they are named after a car that I like. Is that on purpose?

Dan, do you have QS surrounds above AND below the upper bed, or were they just mounted differently in the two pictures ?

I think it would be kinda cool if more chicks were into this sorta thing, but it seems in this and other AV forums that 99% of the posters/lurkers are guys.

Luckily for me, WAF isn't much of an issue, the wife doesn't really care what I park in the living room. In fact, I just ordered a HSU VTF-3 HO w/turbo which is going in the corner where a small table now stands. She also seems content with what we have, a small and very old AIWA bookshelf hooked up to the plasma. I think though once I get this Axiom M80/HSU/Emotiva combo hooked up, she won't believe it. As a comparison, when we swithched from dial-up internet to DSL years back, she didn't really seem to notice a difference. It wasn't until a year later that she got on a friends dial-up connection for some surfing that she came home and commented that she never wanted to go back to dial up again lol. So even if she isn't blown away by the surround system I am setting up, she will eventually get used to it, go to someone elses place, watch TV on a 20" tube with the internal speaker and think the same as DSL vs Dial up...that she would never go back.

Unfortunately the AV world is a "techie" world, and for whatever reason, it just doesn't appeal to a lot of women. Hopefully this will change with time.

Bridgeman, there are 3 different rooms represented in my pictures.

The first two is my current room.
The next two was my setup last year (when I first got my axioms)
And the last one is my home setup.

Actually, the pictures showing my current setup everything is set up in "movie mode" Otherwise, my speakers move all the way to the left of that desk (where my keyboard is sitting), and so does my monitor.

Yea, looking at them again it's kind of confusing.

Maybe there are women here pretending to be men . I hear that people do that all the time.

All I can say is that since I got the Axiom system, my wife can't stop talking to her friends and relatives about it. She now actually says things like "You wouldn't believe that sound is only coming from two speakers and not the surrounds" and "I heard bells behind me and just had to look". The other day I caught her in the basement all alone listening and she's never done that before. She's always been content with her tiny boombox. It's really funny actually.

I'm glad there are stories of women hearing the light. Yeah, I've never personally run into any females who care about audio. On the other hand, almost every woman I know is into cars more than I am.
