At last! The naming contest for the new Axiom Amplifier is upon us! Please submit your best names by midnight on Sunday - the winner will receive a $500 Axiom gift certificate in exchange for his or her efforts.

A few details from Ian and Tom about this product to help you in your search for the best name:

The amp will put out 1,400 watts of continuous power. It is very efficient so it is possible to get this power output from a single 15 amp wall plug. Since each amp module will pass full power you can get 1,400 watts continuous out of a single channel @ 2 ohms. The large amount of capacitance in this amp will allow for peaks above this power. This allows output per channel to not be limited by the amp module but rather the total power of all channels up to the output of the power supply. The standard rating in the industry is one channel driven at full power and the other 6 channels at 1/8 power. This is reflected in the specs below. We've future-proofed this product by adding an 8th channel to it (nice if you are
running 2 centers).

HWD inches: 3.9 x 17.9 x 17.4
HWD mm: 100 x 455 x 442

Power (1 channel driven)
8 ohms - 350 watts
4 ohms - 700 watts
2 ohms - 1,400 watts

Power (1 channel full and 6 channels at 1/8 power)
8 ohms - 350 watts per channel
4 ohms - 700 watts per channel
2 ohms - 800 watts per channel

Power (7 channels driven)
All impedances - 200 watts per channel

For those of you that are better at picturing products when you see pictures, here is the power equation:

The faceplate, voted on by members of the Axiom Owner's Club, is 'gently curved', and the logo, voted on by members of the message boards, is 'in-and-out'. The entire amplifier case is die-cast aluminum and the digital technology contained inside allows this amp to run very cool to the touch - even during a party! Here's a rendering:

Already submitted entries are Axiom Amplifier, AX1400, and the Axiom Kilowatt. All new entries welcome, even if they have been previously submitted for other Axiom products.

I'm thinking along the lines of "One", as this is the first product in this category, and I think that such a name will stand the test of time in Axiom history to any future amp projects. Further, it's a tiny bit boastful about market position without being pushy!

So…..

The Axiom One
Amplifier One
D1 (for digital One)
Reference One
TC One (or TC-1) (For Tom Cumberland)

How about The AxAmp 1.4 or full name The Axiom AxAmp 1.4
The Axiom AxAmp 1.8
1.4 being short for 1,400watts. Model can be shortened to AX-8

The Axiom Axios Digital Amplifier 1.4 or 1.8

Axios derived from the greek word "Worthy".

Since the top speaker line is the VaSSallo Series, I wonder if a top end fusion reactor amp will be called the Cumberland Series.....

I am a fan of names that describe the product. It's a bit difficult to come up with a name like that for a single product without knowing if there will be more products in the line, and their differences. If you are simply looking for a generic title, since you already have the Epicenter (EP) line for your subs, something related, like EQ (for Earthquake, or Equilibrium, or Equation, or whatever), or something similar might work.

If there will be more amps in the line with different power, then EQ1400 would define this product. If there will be more models with a different number of channels (2, or 3, or 5), then EQ8 would be descriptive. If there would be amps with differing power and channels, then use EQ1400-8.

Alternative ideas:

Axiom Excalibur, Excellence, Extend, Extreme - EX1400-8, etc. (I was going to suggest "Explosion," but that might not be a good name for a power amplifier. I also eliminated "Extort," "Exterminate," and "Extinct")

The Axiom "Xterminator" or "X-terminator, or "Xtreme"? - XT1400-8

Axiom Command - AC1400, etc. (if there is a processor in the offing, this might be a better name for that)

If this is the only amp to ever see the light of day, then never mind.
