Axiom Home Page Forums General Discussion Advice from Axiom Owners OK, how about advice on A/V receiver w/my new 60's

The M60's are on the way thanks in part to all your opinions, so now I am trying to decide between the Outlaw 1070 and the Emotiva combo of LPS/LMC-1. They both sell for about the same and appear to be excellent choices. I don't see a lot of input on the forums with these two but does anyone have anything new to add? Don't care too much about HDMI connectivity. The Outlaw is "only" 65 watts but is supposed to be clean. The Emotiva is a rated much higher but not sure our audio cabinet can support the 63 pounds the amp weighs, also worried about heat build-up in cabinet. The Outlaw has been out for a while, is it dated?

Dave, you'll certainly enjoy your M60s and while the units you mention would be fine with them, you can save a little money for more important things and get excellent performance and features with receivers such as the Onkyo 505 or Yamaha 661.

The 60's are very easy to drive being 8ohm. I owned some for 2 years. Any solid state AVR or seperates will have no problem. I would just purchase a unit that has the bells and whistles you want.

Just curious, any reason your not looking at an AVR like Denon, Yammy, HK, etc. with more power and better features?

I'm sure most of them are great receivers, but I kind of like the idea of one made by a "boutique" manufacturer like Outlaw or Emotiva from the U.S. (although who knows, they might be made right along side Yamaha, Denon, etc). For me, great customer service is key as I am sure to have questions and would pay extra for that type of help and support. The Marantz SR5001 is also on my short list for my wife's sake, I think she would listen to the XM radio if we had it in the house, and also it has the HDMI hook-ups. Just want something a little different to go with my great speakers.

All the brands you mentioned, including Emo and Outlaw get their guts from China for the most part and have warehouses in China building these products. What makes you think you'll get better CS? I would be very careful and make sure you read all the reviews on any problems some of the named brands you mentioned have had in the past. The other brands have been around a lot longer and have a better track record.

Aren't Denon and Marantz in the same stable? Marantz has been around a long time, but I know it's not the same company it was when I was a kid.

Pick out the reciever that has most of what you want at the best price you can find and things should go great. It really has little bearing on brand name. If you want Outlaw or Emotiva that alone is a good enough reason, imo, to get it.

Agree, it's like asking people about their coffee, everyone has their favorite. I've researched receivers to death and would be happy with any of the three, each has some features I like. I will probably go with the one that we will get most use out of, the Marantz. Then spend the savings on the center channel or sub.
