Ok I have two situations now and I only want to do this once. My current movie room, currently be constructed in Basement, taking over rec room is 20' x 13.5' x 7.5'. In 6 or 7 years, I plan to build either a new house or put on an addition to this one. So, the movie room will be 23' x 17' x 8' ... I plan on moving the audio gear to the new room then, and not buy new.
So, my question is .... I am only having either layout ... One EP600 or an EP500 with the possiblity for a second EP500.
I know that either one is and will be more than I need in my current situation. But, I can turn the volumn down so it doesn't matter, the problem would be if I go to small, I can't turn up later what I don't have. I know from previous post obviosly one EP500 would most likely be all I would need in the bigger room also. I also know that one EP 600 would be better than one EP500, but would two EP500'ss be better than one EP600 in the bigger room ? Can the extra $$$ be justified for either setups in the bigger room, either a) having two EP500's instead of one EP600 b) buying an EP600 over a EP500, is it that much more than I will need c) save the extra $1000+ and an EP500 is all I will want.
I guess I can always get one EP500 and if I need more later then buy a second, and is two EP500's not better than one EP600

the ratings for the EP subs go as follows (I think from Jakeman:
1. 4 EP600s 2. 3 EP600s, 1 EP500s 3. 2 EP600s, 2 EP500s 4. 1 EP600, 3 EP500s 5. 4 EP500s 6. 3 EP600s 7. 3 EP500s 8. 2 EP600s 9. 2 EP500s 10. 1 EP600 11. 1 EP500

Just curious… Was this rating done using some kind of math algorithm (no subs) or was it done using the actual subs? In other words, . Who in hell has access to 4 EP600 and 4 EP500?

Yes there is more output than anyone could ever want but that was not the objective. My inspiration for all those subs came from reading the Harman article on optimizing LF sounds in an HT and I decided to check it out for myself. Not that I don't trust technical articles but often it doesn't transalte into real world situations. Output for the sake of max SPLs is a mugs game since good bass has to blend with the rest of the speakers. I configured those 4/5 subs in total to give 75db level matched so the subs were as loud as any one speaker. Where the benefit comes from multiple subs is more even FR anywhere in the room and also far lower THD and IMD so you get the cleanest sound possible in the most seats. In my room, I found the most significant sonic benefit comes from having dual subs on opposing side walls and I recommend that for anyone's HT. After that, well it gets better with more subs but with diminishing returns. Now if I can only fill in that crack on the outside of my basement foundation wall.
