I use a pair of M3ti's as main L/R speakers and wanted to add a couple rears to get quad surround. My setup is a bit unconventional.

I made a similar thread a couple months back but I wouldn't be able to take full advantage of larger speakers and a subwoofer at the moment since I'm limited to the amount of noise I can produce and don't have the $ to soundproof everything

My setup is a bit unconventional because I use 2 different chairs at two different distances depending on which task I'm performing with my HTPC. I could be sitting close to the speakers at my desk playing games, listening to music or working (using a 1920x1200 res huge LCD) or I could be sitting in a lounge chair approx 5-6 feet away while watching a movie (the speakers are about 4.5 feet apart, big desk). So I am unsure of how I would setup the rear speakers. I find the M3ti's to work quite well in both situations while sitting on my desk and while sitting a distance away in the lounge chair. The rears would have to be quite a distance back from the desk in order for them to be behind me while I'm sitting in my lounge chair, maybe 9+ feet or so. I wanted to know how poorly this would sound at this distance since the M3's will be much closer to me most of the time while I'm sitting at my desk. Maybe someone could offer suggestions of how I could arrange them to work OK in both situations (I know this all probably sounds awful to an audiophile purist)

Also if anyone could suggest some inexpensive rears I would be most appreciative. The QS-4 are a bit more than I would like to spend at the moment and probably overkill for some m3's so I'm thinking about just adding another two M3's to match the ones I have now.

2 more M3's would be the best in your situation, as you say the QS's cost a little too much. I would think you could then do some setup configuring in the HTPC to give you the best sound as needed.

The rears should not sound poor being that far away provided you have controls on your HTPC to adjust the speaker distance (ie. time delay) and gain.
