I have been upgrading my system from its early htib phase to a respectable system, and right now the only old crappy speakers I've got are my surrounds. My room is small, I have a VP150 and M22s and am crossed over at 80hz. Would I be fine with the QS4s, or would I gain anything with the QS8s? The QS8s would be future proof, but I'm just a poor student and they cost a lot more, and I don't know if I'd even notice a difference.

Unless you're in a large room, I suspect you'd be very pleased with the QS4s.

Mario, welcome. The QS4s should be fine now and should be adequate for that future room unless the room(and your listening distance)would be really big.

Here's a third vote for the QS4's. I believe that they're VERY close in performance to the QS8's except in the power handling category. I'm sure I would have been just as happy with them as my QS8's. In fact, for my room size, I probably overbought. Go for the QS4's.

I'm curious as to what people would recommend between:
1) 2 QS8s, or
2) 3 QS4s for less than $100 extra.

I'll soon have to make this decision and am curious as to what others think.

I've got M60s and the VP150 and will be able to have enough room behind the couch to have a proper 6.1 set up.

Jordan, as I said above, unless your listening room size and your distance is very substantial, the QS4s should be fine for the side surrounds. So if that applies in your situation and you have enough room behind you for a back surround effect, the same standard would apply and the QS4 should also do the job there. Rather than 6.1, however, you should consider 7.1 for the stereo back surround processing of 2 and 5 channel material that DPLIIx, etc. does, as well as possible future discrete 7.1 recordings you might get.
