I went to see the Wake Forest University Symphony Orchestra Midnight Halloween concert. It was quite clever with a somewhat rowdy crowd. Most enjoyable.

Has anyone here seen Metallica yet ? the current Death Magnetic tour that is.. I'm going tomorrow night Nov 3rd. Just wondering what their previous shows on this tour have been like.

I'm pretty sure I'm done seeing Metallica live. Been there, done that.

Yes, I've seen them multiple times also.. and if it wasn't for the last album, which I think is great, I would have passed on this concert.

I'd be tempted to see them again if there was a chance that the opener would be any good. Given the current state of metal music, the chances are awfully slim.

I've seen Metallica several times on this tour and the performances have been excellent. The new album translates very well live. They have been mixing up the setlists as well so you never know what you'll get on any given night. The opener is Lamb of God, they were pretty impressive considering I've never heard them before. I think there is also a Danish band Volbeat as the first opener, don't know much about them.

Metallica, Nov 3rd ScotiaBank Place Ottawa ON

The good: The set list was really good, they played 6 songs off the new album and a lot of good old stuff from Ride, Master, Justice, Black album and none of the crap from load, reload, st-anger.

The bad: From where I was sitting the sound was terrible. The double kick drums and the bass overpowered everything and the vocals were practicaly non existent. Not sure if it sounded better elswhere in the arena..but not from my seat.. although I have a very good seat in terms of position relative to the stage, the sound was atrocious.

Conclusion: Glad I went, highly unlikely I'd go back.

I saw Josh Ritter and The Swell Season last night. I was an absolutely amazing concert.

If you haven't heard of The Swell Season, but have heard of or seen the movie/musical Once, then you'll know there's some great talent here. They were backed by Glen Hansard's former band The Frames.

Toward the end, we had a surprise guest -- actor Jason Segel -- who played piano and sang us a song he wrote. Someone put it up on YoutTube. Watch it here \:\) \:\)
