I have an EP 500 V2 subwoofer.

I downloaded some DTS audio CD tracks and was able to play it on my DVD player. I select the surround to be in DTS. The front panel shows all 5 speakers and LFE (sub). I did this to check my surround sounds and subwoofer.

The thing is, I can barely hear the subwoofer, even at max volume, their are only little bit of output coming out of it.

I am not sure if it has to do with the SPL's because I have a klipsch subwoofer somewhat close to it, and it pumps out a lot of bass.

I set all the speakers to small, and put the crossover to 100 hz even. The LFE is on with the receiver also. The subwoofer volume on the receiver is not set to low or high, at default setting.

I have the coxial cable coming from line in to the LFE output of my receiver.

Whats going on? This also happened to me with my previous HT subwoofer which had very little sound coming from it even at max volume.

edit:

I think the problem may be from the receiver. It is a harmon kardon AVR 7000 receiver. I one time connected a sub to it few years back with that receiver and still received very little bass output.

Try a high level speaker input on the 500.

Unplug the cable from the 500 and connect it to the Klipsch. If the Klipsch is pounding, then you need to trace the problem to the 500. If not, the problem is the cable or the receiver.

Let us know.

ok, I tried the alternative way of connecting the sub to the receiver by doing the speaker wire method.

Now, when I turned on the subwoofer, even when putting the volume halfway, their is a loud humming noise.

When I played a DTS track on a CD player, I hear little bass coming from the subwoofer, and the humming noise is quite loud. All the other speakers seem to work fine.

I have th speaker wires going from by sub in to the amp (front left and right) and I also have the front speakers connected to the same front left and rigth of the receiver.

I don't think you should have the outputs of the sub ran back into your Reciever Check your reciever manual it should have to tell you how to hook it up..

it should go something like this

run wire's from amp to HIGH LEVEL IMPUTS on sub
Positive to postive ..neg to neg
run wires from sub's OUTPUT to speakers to your speakers ..

if youhave them running from the sub back into the reciever .. shut it down before you blow something up ..

HTH

Oh sorry, my mistake.

I meant the speaker wire INPUT from the sub goes to speaker wire OUTPUT from the receiver.

The speaker wire INPUT from the speakers, also go to the same front left and right of speaker wire OUTPUT from the receiver.

If nothing happens succesfully, I guess i'll take my subwoofer to an electronic store to see if the sub actually works (could be a problem with my receiver).

Also when I am adjusting the crossover frequencies, it seems that the humming is at 60 Hz. I read the manual stating about the 60 hz humming and it mentioned that you would have to take off the chassis ground screw. Where is that?

Also, despite having a loud humming sound, their is little or no bass coming out of the sub.

You may want to give Axiom a call, their customer service is great, and if they determine there is a problem with the amp they will replace it.

If you look in the manual, there is a picture of the back of the ep500 and it shows you where the ground screw is at next to the other knobs.

I removed the chassis screw and it gave me the opposite effect. The hum was more louder.

I will give Axiom a call as well.
