There's a short blurb in this issue about a couple who have cobbled together a 3D fabricator which sculpts the objects out of sucrose. What an awesome idea. It would be so cool to "print" out a 3D model of my home theater and eat it.

This is as close as I've ever come, and it was tasty.

That's pretty cool. Was this from a party at the Axiom factory?

We have a 3D printer at work that makes things out of acrylic. Technically, it's a prototyping machine, but the plastic is rigid and they've been using it to create functional lab equipment. The guys in the machine shop showed me what it can do and I was blown away. Not only can it make solid objects like forks and spoons, but it can make an adjustable crescent wrench (assembled!), and a model engine complete with crankshaft and moving pistons.

I can't wait until the prices drop on these things and they're available at home budget prices....

It'll be like when you were first able to buy a laminator for home.... THAT cool.
