I'm not understanding this...there is nothing coming out of the ex channels during dd ex 5.1 movies. When I look in my reciever while the movie is playing it just says dolby digital. I've tried switching DSP's but it's not letting me choose a decoder. I can't really pinpoint when this problem began occuring, I just know now that for some reason my movies, whether dts or dolby aren't decoding the back channels. This only occurs with movies, on tv and music, I can choose decoders. Why is this? I need help. I know that i've had the option of decoding before, so what is it that I did wrong?

I think I see the answer. Are the movies really both Dolby Digital EX and 5.1? If it's sending the signal as DDEX with only 5.1 channels, that's all you're going to get from that disc. There may be a way to get your reciver to do DD and DPLII+ to get the extra 2 channels, though.

well to give examples, star wars the phantom menace, and the incredibles are two of the movies i've tried using and the back channels dont work. I've seen these movies before with the ex channels working...i dont know whats the problem now. I haven't changed my equipment or changed any cables.

OK, so those are at least 6.1, if not 7.1. Check the menus on the DVDs? Perhaps they're set for 5.1?

Now I have another serious problem with my yammy. I think there is something wrong with my two front inputs. They're not outputting any sound regardless of what I do. My poor m60's are mute! I'm hoping there isn't a hardware problem with this thing. This issue is much more serious than the previous one. I've tried going thru all the options in the yamaha but I'm beginning to think the fronts wire inputs are fried.

Sounds like a reset might be in order. I'm not sure how to do that on that unit.
OK, I hate to do this, but I just did it myself the other day. Check your A&B speaker buttons inside the front panel.

Those would be the buttons that turn on and off the front (A) speakers and the 2nd room (B) speakers.
