for those that have upgraded from m22's to m60's would you do it again. I like m22's a lot but really do not like the looks of the speakers on the stands, it could just be my stands the original axiom stands. I've owned the speakers for about 4 years. I don't need more spl so I'm just wondering if I would gain more then just looks, is the sound stage that much bigger with the m60's. I know there are other stands out there but not sure if I would like looks of them any better. I'm looking at using the trade in program to trade in the m22's. I know I'm the only one that can make the decision, and can try the 30 day return policy, but thought I would get some opinions from those that have done this.
Thanks in advance

Pat

I have not heard the m22's but my m60's put out some excellent sound. I listen to mostly classical music and never need to use my sub unless I throw in some Bach organ pieces.

I debated this issue longer than anyone, I think. But, I finally took that final step and upgraded to the M60s after reading Tom Andry's review of the Vassallo series speakers where he compares his M22s with the M60s. This sentence which I am quoting from the review, "the m22’s give you the bad news straight; the m60’s at least pat you on the shoulder while they deliver the news," sums up perfectly what I believe is similar, but yet different between them.

Yes David, and the sub sure does help on the opening of Also Sprach Zarathustra, too!

I have no regrets about going from the M22s to the M60s. The M60s have more impact and a wider soundstage, although the M22s might image a little better. If you have the space for the M60s and like the looks of a tower speaker, then by all means get them. I still have both sets of speakers and you can't go wrong with either.

David, I am curious how far away you are sitting from the mains and how far apart your mains are? I find it interesting that you say the M22s image better than the 60s. Also, are both sets toed in?

About 10 feet with about a 10 foot separation between the speakers. Don't get me wrong, I still feel that the imaging from the M60s is very good.

I understand. Your distances appear adequate. I am just very curious why the imaging from the 22s sounds better to you.

I did not listen critically to the m22s before I upgraded but I do remember them sounding beautiful. I am happy with the m60s - they are very impactful. If your main crtieria is appearance and WAF, as was mine, I would seriously consider better stands - I didn't and moderately regret it. The Axioms stands were frankly a bit nasty looking for a non-dedicated audio room - there are much better out there for a little more - I would try to get something in wood - may not even a specialised stand - as long as its not an enclosing cabinet, I am sure it would work fine. What I am trying to say, is that if I had it over, I would have considered this option more carefully with the potential of adding a sub later. I love the look of my m60s and I often leave the grilles off but they certainly dominate my space appearance wise and I don't always like that.
