Hey all! I'm hoping to buy myself a pair of M60 speakers for my new apartment. I want to upgrade to floorstanding speakers. Here's my challenge: It's a loft space with 13ft ceilings and all exposed brick walls. The spot I'd like to use them in is on either side of a gas fireplace. I haven't figured out how I'm going to connect the cables yet - I've been wondering about running them up to the ceiling beams on one side, not sure. I just want to be aware of the heat issues. And, well, I've been told that brick walls make speakers bright. Any advice on what to do about that? Should I consider look into dampening materials? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! ZG

Z,

If you post a picture, we may be able to help you better.

You could run the speaker cable along the bottom of the fireplace if it is elevated. You can purchase 105 degC-rated, 12AWG speaker cable at Home Depot for less than $1/foot.

Brick walls certainly are brighter but I wouldn't sweat it until you actually have a chance to listen to your set-up. I have a very bright room and I am happy with the sound.

I wouldn't put the M60s in the bright catagory anymore either, They are not as forward/bright as the M80 so a bright room will not be a problem.

Hi! Thanks for the responses. I've got two shots of the fireplace from the real estate listing. I'll try to figure out how to post them. Good to know about running cable around the bottom. I think that will work. And won't look so horrible. Aesthetic is key in this place! Many thanks! ZG

When I bought it 7 months ago it was green. You can buy some fiber loom (it comes in various colours) to dress it up.
