so does this do dolby via the optical or only DTS? I will talk to my wife tonight and maybe show up Nick, don't worry about grabbing one for me, but I appreciate it though.  I think the tire place opens around 7am...

you can play audio CD's on it yes and you got your normal dolby...basically most of the features you get on a descent up converting run of the mill DVD player you get on this minus stuff like DivX playback which i think is a little of a bummer. sure it's to play HD but do you want 5 dvd players stacked on top of each other? more details about the A2 http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/tacpassets-images/models/HD-A2/docs/HD-A2KU_E.pdfoh and BTW i'm REAL bitter about this deal being only in the U.S..i think i'll protest and bring back Laser disc

The specs state that it will read CD, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-DA, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW, DVD VR, HD-DVD.

It doesn't specify a limit on their web site, but who knows. I am hoping that there aren't too many people waiting for them. Then I could buy one, take it to my car, and the go back and get another if I needed to.

50 in stock, darn, the holiday website link on page one says minimum 50 per store.
I guess the only thing holding me back is that some day I hope to get a 1080p projector, the Sanyo Z2000 after rebate can be found for under 2K now on ebay.
I'm sure the A2 would make my Z2 look awesome and 98 bucks is not a bad deal....

Speaking of which, I just saw a Wal-Mart ad on TV which featured the HD DVD player, so it looks like they're actually pushing it a little. Here's hoping they get the sales they're looking for.
I also liked the iPod Touch commercial featuring "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" by CSS, which I'd say is my favorite song of theirs.
