I'll agree with Mike about the Corpse Bride, that movie looks amazing in HD, and since the special features were done in SD you can switch back and forth from the movie to the features and really see the difference between HD and SD.

I may need to try that....I'm thinking about shooting a couple of up close digital pics of the Transformers disc and post 'em to see if you guys can tell a difference. I don't know about picture quality with the camera, we'll see.

Well I ended up getting one of these HD players. Thanks to a buddy of mine that gave me a gift card for CC. I ended up with the floor model for $129.00. I think I ripped the cd correctly, at least it says it's on there \:\) . I'll get it hooked up tomorrow and see how I like it. It should be a lot better than the old Pioneer that I have, I hope.

Here's a pic, not nearly as clear and crisp as the A2/TV but it does show how bright the colors are, especially in the skin tones, all of the SD and the Face-Off disc isn't nearly so bright.

Here's one a little more detailed ... not as good as the real picture but not too far off either. I don't know if putting these pics can remotely give you guys an idea of the PQ on the TV, I'm doubting it.

This is an exerpt from a review of the Transformers.
 Quote:
Colors are bright, rich, and deep, perhaps a tad too bright, rich, and deep for real life, and a touch glassy, too, but appropriate for a cartoonish movie like "Transformers." Definition is, as we might expect, near flawless, the crispness of the delineation serving to point up every detail in the mechanical creatures.

I read the movie was intentionally made this way to give it that cartoonish feel as the reviewer pointed out.
I believe as you get the opportunity to see more movies in HD you will truly see a difference in most films, some huge some minor, but I have yet to see one that was worse in HD than in SD.

Michael, being gone all weekend I missed all of the threads regarding the firmware disc and how to burn one....with your firmware upgrade did you notice a relative difference in the PQ between prior and after the upgrade with the Transformers disc?

Sorry Rick, The first thing I did after taking the unit out of the box was upgrade it, I wish I had thought of playing a movie prior to the update, it would have been interesting to see how the update affected the performance. I can say though that after the update the PQ seemed every bit as good as the PQ of my AX2.
In regards to Transfomers I'm in the same boat as you, I enjoyed the movie but to me it I would give it at 8 out of 10 for PQ, perhaps just because of the way it was filmed, when I watch something in HD I like it to look more real and have crystal clarity.

I am assuming the top one is SD and the bottom is HD.

The HD quality rocks!
