I know I found this before on the web site but I can't seem to find it now. What is the recomended space to leave between an M80 and the wall behind it?

I just replaced my old CRT RPTV and that had the speakers out on the same plane as them, bu tI'll probably move them back a bit now.

Thanks for any advice!

That's a tough question, Mike.

If you move them further away from the wall, the soundstage and imaging may improve but the bass will weaken. If you have a sub, you may want to move them out as much as possible. There's also the dreaded ceiling reflection to consider so you should experiment with what sounds best.

I have mine moved out about 9" (which is the maximum distance I can afford) and they sound divine.

I have mine at about 10 inches. I have to be careful because one of them is also close to a side wall and when the distance from the side/back walls are almost the same, I get some booming bass.

Well I have them at about 10" now because that brought the fronts to the same plane as the TV. I was hoping to move them back to around 7-8" but maybe I'll just go with 9" and call it done.

Damn axioms have me addicted to getting the best sound I can. I'm getting a brand new awesome TV today and all I keep thinking about is how to work my speakers around it =p.

It really depends on your room size, position from front/side walls, and other factors. I have mine about 8" or so from the front wall and slightly toed in a bit.

This is very best kind of problem to have! My M80s are causing all sort of pains too like "what should I listen next" because I want to re-listen to everything I own at the same time. It's really heatbreaking.... ;\)

With my set up I am forced to keep my M80s about 3" away from the wall, they still sound great and the imaging is wonderfull.

Ours are 44" from the back wall and 17" from the side walls, this placement seemed to be the most ideal acoustic location for our particular application after many hours of having them placed in several (dozens!) locations.

Rick, I love how they're placed in your space.

Thanks Mo, whenever the 80s were placed close to the back wall the bass seemed 'muddied' up behind the TV, while placed even with the TV they were hitting the first reflection points on the sidewalls as well as being very close to the evil equidistant from side and back walls, where they are placed now the CD/DVD case on the right wall along with the shutters on the left wall seems to breakup the first reflection points. Matter of fact if I close the shutters on the left wall I can actually hear a difference.
