What the heck does he mean "asymmetrical"? :-)

Room placement will narrow the width of my new M60tis if I just put them on either side of the TV (one side is space constrained) and centered with the VP150 (which is centered on top of the TV) - about 6' or so spacing which I know is on the low end.

The question is, can I place the fronts so the center is not equidistant between the fronts and compensate with the sound levels on the AVR to get the same SPL at the sweet spot? Seems as though it should work, but has anyone's experience said this creates an off-balance front sound stage?

Am I making sense? I hope so and if not, I can add more data. Looking at the "wallofame", it appears BigWill, maybe Amer, and Chesseroo's systems have the fronts slightly non-equidistant to the center. I'm not talking about a lot in my case - maybe 1 - 2 feet at the most.

The only thing that REALLY matters is that the center channel is centered to your screen. It shouldn't negatively affect your experience of the movie if it's off to one side or the other.

My M22s are 3.5 ft from the left and 2 ft from the right. VP150 aimed right at me. The sound stage sounds good to me and all who have been blessed to hear it...

I've had my M60s in a number of different places. For music: far apart (9-10') seems best. For HT: butted up against the TV seems best.
As far as symmetry goes: if I point the M60s at a point just behind my listening position, I have found that the asymmetrical positioning is not that big of a deal.
Basically, get them as far apart as possible and toe them in to a point behind your listening position.
