We borrowed A Christmas Story from a friend 'cause I had never seen it before. Hiding under a rock, I guess. After many years of having to watch Miracle on 34th and Wonderful Life every year, I guess I just avoided this Christmas movie. Anyway, I got the system all fired up and the center channel was way too hot compared to the rest of the channels, I thought. So I tried to change surround modes and no matter what I did I kept seeing MONO on the AVR display. I spent 10 minutes trying everything I could think of to force even stereo to come out, but to no avail. So I just turned off the system and used the speakers on the TV... totally disappointing.

So unlike Ralphie's four letter blunder, which happens to be my favorite expletive as well, my new worst four letter word is MONO.

Happy Holidays All !!

Your receive has no "full mono" or any other DSP programs to send the mono to all channels? That's pretty bad. \:\(

Yeah Scott, I'm not familiar with the Emotiva stuff, but as Eric indicated, it would be surprising if they forgot or intentionally left out provision for using mono material more effectively. Mono stays mono, of course, and can't be changed into real stereo or surround material, but it should be playable as mono through all your speakers. Even if there isn't a specific "full mono" or "all-channel mono" setting, the regular stereo setting("all-channel stereo"?)to duplicate stereo in all speakers for a party situation or similar use should have that effect.

Dan, you're much to young to identify with all that 1940s stuff, but for those of us who grew up in the era, that movie is a real trip down memory lane.

I can clearly remember my father's voice floating angrily up from the basement, laced with beautifully graphic curse words, as he tried to deal with a coal burning furnace. \:D

Though I had a Red Ryder BB Gun, I never shot my eye out.

I did, however, get my tongue stuck on the metal railing of a bridge that crossed a creek near my house \:\( .

Many scenes in the movie were shot here in Cleveland. Cleveland's Public Square was featured in the movie's opening scenes of a beautifully decorated downtown area, and in the parade scene. The Santa scenes were shot in Higbee's department store, now, regrettably, out of business, as is Halle's department store and Hough's bakery (They've taken all the "H"s out of my life \:\( ) .

And, believe it or not, Ralphie's house, located in the Tremont area on the near West side of Cleveland, was purchased off EBAY by a fan, restored to it's movie condition, and turned into the "A Christmas Story" House Museum (complete with leg lamp), open to the public year round.

When I first heard about that, I thought it would be a bust. But, apparently, I underestimated the popularity of "A Christmas Story" because, much to my surprise, it is still going strong

Well, out of the hundreds of movies that I've seen, this is the first I've run across that was in MONO. I've got movies older than A Christmas Story that are in Pro Logic, so this was a surprise. Since we are not in the habit of watching really old movies, I don't think I'm going to lose sleep over the issue.

This is my favorite Christmas story / show. I watch it every year, up till this year. I was outvoted and we watched Christmas Vacation on HD/DVD. Now if only Scrooged would come out on HD, I'll be set for next year.

Rick, are you talking about Scrooged, Christmas Vacation, or A Christmas Story? Or maybe I'll just assume you're watching all three at once.

I'm sorry Charles, I was referring to 'A Christmas Story' ... the *one* movie us the older generation can actually relate to. So I've heard.
