I don't understand the whole iPod thing because I don't need my music with me all of the time. Plus, at my age I nod off and drool alot so the batteries would just run down. The folks that DO use them, please enjoy.

My daughter got an iPod Touch this Christmas and it is a slick (and overly expensive) device. Best way I can describe it is an iPhone without the phone part.

That is pretty much what it is, the IPhone but no phone. My wife is using it as a personal organizer with tunes.

I would consider getting one, except I can't believe how little storage they have... I like to carry all my music with me which means I need at least 60GB.

Seriously? Wow... I do just fine with 2 GB. OTOH, my wife has a 30 GB, and we've got 40 GB of music.

If you've seen one in person, you'd understand why they have so little storage. Those things are thin! Also, flash memory's still relatively expensive--they could put 64 GB in one, but then it would cost, oh, around $1000.

My wife has the 16GB, but she will most likely never fill that up. She liked the look and interface more than any PDA so we went that way.

One guy at work has an 80GB Ipod and it is full of music...literally.

I broke down and joined the herd this Christmas - bought myself an iPhone. It is, without a doubt, one of the most amazing devices I have ever used. I don't say that lightly. It's not perfect, but it is incredible, especially for 'gen 1'. I could wax poetic about the thing all day, but as a *long* time user of PDA's and smartphones (Palm's, PocketPC's/WM5-6, Treos, HTC's, Psion's, Zauruses, etc), the iPhone is the best I've ever used.

The 8GB (or 16GB on the 'big' Touch) is a bit limiting, but we will see higher capacity versions of both the Touch and the iPhone within the first 6 months of this year. They are coming.

My 80GB iPod Classic will remain my core music player (my entire music collection is about 30GB). The main reason for me is that my Audio Line Out dock to my headphone amp works with it, and it doesn't on the iPhone because Apple changed the pinouts.

I have the 16GB as well. It is half full with about 150 albums. My business associate ordered these for the company directors as gifts. The iPod touch is a great PDA/music device.
