Hey everyone,

I've been searching the forums but haven't seen an answer to my question. First time poster \:\) I have a small bedroom that I'd like to use for a small home theater and listening room. The room is small maybe 12' X 9 X 8'. I don't want to overload the room and don't want to over buy. I was thinking of the Epic Grand 500. Would this be overkill for a room this size? I'll probably pair it was a Denon 3808. Any advice for a first time buyer? I have about 4,000 to spend and wanted to get quality pieces instead of using my current HTiB system which I've had for about three years now. After I make a decision I'd like to also do the setup myself. I new to all this, do you think this is something I could pull off. I work on computers and pick-up quickly. Any recommended sources of information for a newbie.

Thanks!

Joe

read up and ask questions as they come and you will have no problem setting up your system at all.

The 3808 is an awesome receiver. They were selling it for $1098 with free shipping at JR.com but you had to call them to get the price over the phone. I have no idea if it is still on sale for that price or not.

The ep500 is great sub. You could probably get by with less (maybe a 350 v3) in that room but if you can afford it I see no reason why you should not get the 500. I do not think that the ep500 will be overkill for your room (although you will probably have to leave the gain (volume) on the ep500 at the 6 or 7 oclock position.)

I have the m80's so I cant comment on the bookshelf speakers but everyone loves them.

I have the epic grand 500 and I'm sure you will be very pleased with its performance.

$4000 for a bedroom HT, I wish I could do that.

The 500 really is overkill for a bedroom I would suggest the EP400 unless you really want to shake the house from your bedroom. The higher extension on the 400 I think lends itself better to the bookshelves. The EP400 won't rattle things but will still give good strong deep tones for HT and sounds awesome with music, a nice bedroom sub.

Joe, welcome. The M22s are excellent in a room that size. Although the EP500 could be considered a bit of overkill, it can be calibrated to a level to suit the room; speakers can never necessarily "overpower" a room if they're calibrated correctly.

The 3808 is fine; if you wanted to save a bit there, you could consider the 2808(988)unless some feature unique to the 3808 is really wanted.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Actually upon rethinking the EP500, I say go for it, it will make an awesome night table. So far as the 3808 vs the 2808, you seem to have the money, go for the 3808, the GUI and the internet/streaming abilities are worth the extra money.

I would suggest something totally different if that was the desired affect...

Thanks for all the input! I don't need to shake the house I just want a great listening experience, It's a dedicated room and I may move it to a larger room in the next year or so. I just wanted to be sure I was going overboard but since I got approval(WAF) for the money I might as well use it.

This is going to be a huge step up for me and a great learning experience.

Thanks again to everyone for being so helpful! I'll post again after I get everything setup.

Joe
