Greetings,

As part of my computer build research, I'm busy trying to find out what keyboard and mouse to go with. Any advice would be appreciated.

$100 canadian is my upper limit. I would like to go bluetooth if possible but at this budget it is looking unlikely. I will also be doing some gaming (I know that many don't like wireless for gaming but I plan to go wireless regardless). The kicker is, that I need one with half decent range that isn't spotty. Minimum 13 feet.

Any ideas?

Bluetooth is not a great choice for gaming. Dedicated wireless is much better, in my experience. I prefer Logitech mice and Microsoft keyboards, myself, mostly for the ergonomics.

I'm with Ken on this one. I always buy Logitech, some of their special function keys don't always work due to software glitches but the keyboards and mice themselves work with standard drivers very well and they feel great.

If you doubled the budget the DiNovo Bluetooth keyboard and mouse are getting really good reviews.

We use a logitech keyboard/mouse combination (pretty sure it is bluetooth) and it works great for all my kids games at 13ft away.

I also agree with Ken. I play COD 4 on my Macbook pro and notice lag if i'm 3 ft away from it (using my apple BT keyboard and mouse).

Could just be the Apple BT. That's what I've had experience with.

Oh, it looks like I had it wrong with the bluetooth angle on this one. I thought that bluetooth had better range and would thus avoid any severe lag.

It's not such bad news given that bluetooth is fairly expensive compared to RF wireless. It looks like the following will be contenders:

Logitech LX310 $58
Logitech 1500 $67
Logitech LX710 $78
Logitech Wave $81
Locitech MX 3200 Laser $92

Can anyone suggest a winner among these? Would any of these have particularly good range? Better for gaming perhaps?

Thanks for the heads up by the way guys.

On a totally unrelated note, I just installed my QS8s. These things are ridiculous.

All I know is that I have the MX700 and the MX1000 and love them. I don't think those mice are still made, and probably aren't included on the combos, sooooo...

The MX1000 (first laser mouse) is clearly superior, so I would probably go with a laser based set.

as ken said, it could just be the apple BT. It could also be the batteries in my stuff....which is wired is ideal for gaming.

It really shouldn't be related to Bluetooth after all the Wii remote is blue tooth and there is no noticeable lag. Granted it is a very powerfull transmitter.

Out of the ones listed I would go for the laser, they work on any surface.

I had the MX910? and within 3years my kids had knocked it off the desk top it so many times it would no longer recharge the batteries in its cradle. I called Logitech and they sent me the MX1000 as the 910 was no longer made; all under warranty, as the 910 apparrently had a 5 year warranty. I still use the 910 with another computer, I just have to swap out the batteries when they need recharging.
