Hey, i had a quick question about my cd listening. I am currently using my xbox360 as my cd player, and the last few cds ive listened to have not really sounded as good as i would expect them to on my M60s. I was wondering if the xbox is just not a good cd player, or is it the recording? I figured that Radiohead "in rainbows" would be good considering its radiohead, and also the mars volta "Bedlam in goliath". Does anyone have any comments on either of these cds, or the 360 as a player?

Thanks in advance

I never really used the xbox 360 as a cd player, but I used it to stream mp3's and used it as a DVD player for a year and a half.

I use my HD DVD player to play my dvd's now (and HD DVD's).

Also, I no longer stream mp3's from my 360 but I stream flac files through my denon receiver.

I am not sure if there is any downside to using it as a cd player or not.

The one downside that would keep me from using my 360 as a CD player is the noise the machine makes.

Hi aouimet,

I don't know the recording quality of either of those CDs. However, if you want to test your XBox360 as a CD player, use a CD of known excellent recording quality. The one I used for years for speaker tests when I was an AV magazine editor, was Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms". I think the track was "Ride Across the Water."

In theory, playback of CDs from your xbox shouldn't differ from any other well-designed DVD player or CD player. Try the playback using the digital output as well as the analog outputs. (I don't own an xbox so I don't know if it has those outputs.)

They all at least have an optical jack as well as the RCA left/right connectors. Newer models also have HDMI jack as well.

I used mine as a CD player with optical but later switched to my PS2 with optical due to the Xbox drive being loud. I now use my PS3 and now save my music onto its hard drive. Lime wire has helped me fill it with all my fav's !
