..concerning long time forum member FordPrefect (Wayne). Wayne lost his dear Mother on December 16th. Needless to say it was a somber Christmas for Wayne and his wife Mary, who had been helping care for their Mother. In January, Mary started not feeling well. Most of her life she has been struggling with a weakened immune system caused by a childhood accident and, by mid January, Wayne was concerned enough to call an ambulance. She was admitted to the ICU, and was diagnosed with a form of pneumonia the doctor referred to as “yeast” pneumonia (possibly Pneumocystis pneumonia). Sadly her condition has worsened. She has slipped into a coma and her kidneys are failing. Wayne fears the worse, and has proceeded with final arrangements. As you might imagine, Wayne is carrying a heavy load. I spoke to him on the phone earlier this evening, and he is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. Frankly, he is a much stronger than I. Though he doesn’t post all that often, Wayne is a frequent visitor to the Axiom forum, and has been for more than 5 years. He told me that reading here, and at another forum he frequents, is a welcome break from the stress he’s dealing with. So, I just want him to know that I’m thinking of him, and sending the best thoughts I can his way. Take care of yourself my friend.

Wayne, times like this seem to magnify distances between individuals. May the knowledge that the events of the last two months are in our thoughts and prayers lighten your heart and diminish the feeling of isolation.

Hello everyone,
This is about my third attempt at replying to you, I hope this time I can actually get it done.
First off THANK YOU so much for your thoughts and prayers, they aren't empty words, they really are helping, they mean a lot to me.
Yesterday I spent my free time sorting through photos and over 1,500 slides trying to find the most meaningful images of Mary in case things don't work out. As Jack said I have made final arrangements and am trying to prepare myself for the worst.
Today a tracheostomy is being done as the current breathing tubes are only a short term solution.
Sorry, but I've noticed I'm starting to babble so I'd better end by thanking this forum for being a place where I can come and enjoy a bit of quiet time.
Graeme thanks for your kind offer, if nothing else perhaps one morning we can meet over a nice warm Timmies (our national coffee addiction for those of you south of the border).
And Jack, I don't know what to say, your kindness is beyond limits, thanks for lending me your ears.
excuse my spelling and grammar I don't think I'm at the top of my game and I don't have the energy to recheck it.
Cheers to all of you
Wayne

Mary died in my arms this morning, the ventilator and all tubes had been removed and by some miracle she looked just like the girl I married 32 years ago, she looked so beautiful. She passed 20 minutes after the life support had been removed, very peaceful; as if she were asleep.
Thanks so much for your help and support, it has meant so much. Wayne

I fear words just can't express my sorrow for you. It is touching to know that Mary's final moments were spent in your arms. I'm sure it was very comforting for her.

I took a moment to reflect on the joy and fullness of life that my wife brings me daily. I can't imagine losing her and thus can't possibly understand your current state. The strength you're showing now and the willingness to share such personal information is very touching. Thanks for sharing with us, Wayne.

Wayne, please accept my condolences. There really aren't any words that can ease your pain at this time, but I hope there is some comfort in knowing that you and Mary had those last few minutes together in each other's arms.
Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help regarding those slides and photographs or in any other way whatsoever.

I'm not sure if this is the right thing to say, but I'm really glad you could have those last moments with her and see that she went peacefully. It seems like there are a lot worse ways to go. It's very sad, but unfortunately it's a part of the process. I find your attitude very admirable.
Like everyone else, my thoughts are with you. I don't know you very well, but I've seen your name around enough when perusing old threads to know what a valuable member you are. I think I can safely say we're all here for you, should you need some support.

Wayne this is very sad to hear, my heart goes out to you. As CV stated, being able to be with Mary and have her in your arms in the last moments is something to cherish.
When I was 13 (32 now) my mother was battling cancer and the day she passed I was going to see her in the morning and at the last minute decided not to. Something that will always stay with me and bother me.
Keep strong and don't feel shy in using your very supportive group of friends here at Axiom. I love this community.

Hi again,
Sorry to bring this up again but I just wanted to have an attempt at closure.
The funeral was a week ago today, and if it's supposed to make you feel better then it did the trick. The location was fairly new; and unlike where we had my mother's funeral, the location was more like an art gallery than a funeral home. It was quite uplifting and left everyone feeling positive.
We expected about 90 people and got 140+. The service was conducted by my cousin and was very touching. He has the ability to make everyone feel like they are all part of the same family.
I'm keeping very busy settling my mother's estate, selling her condo and trying to wrap up all the loose ends involving Mary. I have good days and horrible days. I know for a fact that the good days are going to be increasing in numbers.
Starting to babble (again) so I just want to say thank you all so much for your thoughts and words. They made a real difference.
You are an amazing group of people.
Wayne

Dear Wayne,
Thanks so much for checking in. I did notice that you were online this morning, and I had the brief inclination to "shout" at you. I figured you'd chime in when you felt like it.
I'm so glad you got some comfort from family and loved ones at the service. Sounds like you're lucky to have your cousin in your life.

Please add my voice to the chorus, as Tom nicely put it. Sorry for missing this thread and being late to offer a kind word, but here is the kind word anyway: Love.
We grieve because we love, because we loved. Remember the love and you will be an emotionally rich man forever.
I echo that you have shown great strength and kindness to share your news with us. Your posts, Jack's seed post, and the dozens of responses have really shown the best of our community.
Best wishes to you.
