The satellite guy comes tomorrow to upgrade our Dish to HD for my home theater. Anyway, I've toyed with getting a SlingBox Solo to hook up to it, however (due to the connections that the SlingBox and the 622 have) I need to use the component video (basically the SlingBox would go between my 622 and my A/V receiver and then off to my projector). However, I want to use the optical audio output from the 622 for regular watching, but there is no optical in/out on the SlingBox.

So here is my question. Does the 622 send audio out to both its optical audio out AND the stereo (red/white RCA plugs) audio at the same time? That way I can get the better sound in my home theater, and still have audio on the SlingBox.

I've checked a few web sites, but can't seem to find out.

Does anyone know?

OK, I posted the same question on a satellite tv forum prior to my posting here, and all of a sudden it got some activity over there.

Short answer: All audio and video jacks (outputs) on the 622 are active all of the time, so I can still plug in my projector to the component jacks for HD on "TV1" AND the SlingBox to SVideo or composite also on TV1 and get video. I can also pipe 5.1 audio via optical output to my AV receiver AND stereo via the red/white RCA jacks to the SlingBox... All at the same time.

TV2 is still open to go, via coax, to the TV in our kitchen. So it looks like I just need a SlingBox AV! (Come on w00t....)

I have the Slingbox Pro hooked to my Series 3 HD Tivo. I love being able to watch it all over the house via Wifi and also on vacation.

Can't wait until the iPhone client is ready...

Okay now I know I'm behind the times. i didn't even realize these things existed. Would I be able to get DirecTV and PVR from my main Sat. receiver into a room with a TV but no Sat. connection?
I went to the Slingbox site and saw that this is coming out soon SlingCatcher , should I wait for this?

The SlingBox is really more for watching TV on a computer, not from one TV source (dish, directv, dvr, pvr, vcr, dvd, etc, etc, etc) to another TV. I am sure such products exist (somewhere at home I still have a 900MHz audio/video transmitter and receiver for such a purpose) but I don't know what is good and what isn't.

Michael, it's just a question of wire. I have the D*TV HR20 PVR and - like Nick's Dish model - all the outputs are active all the time. So, you could send the HDMI to your plasma and also route the component (or S-Video) to another set somewhere else. You wouldn't be able to watch different programs, but you could distribute the same signal no problem. Furthermore, the HR20 remote is RF out of the box, so I believe you could use a IR Universal remote in the main room and use the HR20 remote in another room to control the same box. By far the best resource on this stuff is DBS Talk, IMO.

Tom, Thanks for the link I'll read up on my options, I would like to do it wireless if that's possible since the 2 sets I would want to hook up are a good distance from each other and on different floors.

Trust me, I've tried many weird wireless solutions to distribute video to other TVs (not computers). These include 900 MHz RF (to get away from 2.5 GHz) transceivers from Leapfrog, UHF/VHF transceivers, etc. None of them work, I've got a garage full of crap to prove it.

Your best bet is to run a wire, whether it's RG6/coax/Cat5 with a balun/etc. Barring that, the Slingcatcher is your best option if you want to display stuff onto an actual TV. The only caveat is that it was announced last year and has yet to actually ship. Not sure what the delay is but if it ships, that's what you want.

I can second this from a professional standpoint. Worked in three sports venues where the purchaser was rubed into buying wireless backs for cameras... works in the shop, doesn't work in the field.

"Camera 2... try three steps to your left... another one? Do you have LOS to the receiver? Wait, right there... turn 15 degrees to your left... oh, **** it... going to Camera 3..."
