I am still playing a bit with my new Blueray player and cannot seem to find the equivalent of "bookmarks" present on HD-DVD that allows you to stop playback on resume viewing from where you are (unlike good old DVDs that offers that function all the time).

Did I miss something somewhere or are most (all) BD not equipped with a way to stop playback and continue from where you are (not using pause for hours as the disk continues to turn)? Or is just a Panasonic thing?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you are missing anything- it doesn't reliably work. I do believe it is software specific to the title on blu-ray as I remember being able to hit stop and then play to resume on some discs, but definitely not on others.

I tried this on my blu-ray today (also panasonic) and it worked okay - but it was a one-off test. I stopped my aerobics video after yesterday's workout by pressing 'stop', then this morning I just powered the system up and pressed 'play' and it remembered where I was. That's just a regular DVD, though, not a blu-ray disc. Are you having trouble with regular DVDs not bookmarking?

I think he is referring to the bookmark feature on HD DVD disks that let you bookmark a scene... you can then remove the disk, watch something else, and put back in the first disk any time later and resume from the spot you bookmarked if you want.

Regular DVDs are OK. (both with HD-DVD and BR players).

80-90% of my HD-DVD disks have bookmarks (surviving disk removal).

With BD so far:
1 out of 13 have worked like a DVD (stop/resume).
2 out of 13 (very recent disks) have bookmarks using B/Blue key (they were Spiderman 2/3).
The rest (10) restart whenever stop or setup is used.

The two disks that have bookmarks are giving me hope that it will become more and more a standard feature on each disk (it requires persistent storage, which only became mandatory with "Final Profile").

Let's cross our fingers for the future, otherwise this is annoying! \:\(

Aaahhh, gotcha. I've never tried that on our player. So would you use it for demoing your system, or skipping trailers or something?

No, simply being able to watch stuff in 2-3 viewings instead of one sitting. At the beginning of DVD, it was the same thing. Content producers were allowed to block the "resume" so they could play their intro over and over again. But popular pressure made them change the standard to allow players to do it regardless of disk settings. I was flabbergasted when I had the problem with my first HD-DVD disk: they had done it again! Control to studios and studios liking to show their nice into at 110db! \:\)

b) discs have this feature relative to BRD-Java. BRD-Java doesn't have this. Thus the reason for sporadic occurance.
