I need to learn more about Clark. "Real People"(tm) seem to be excited, and from my initial research (Google), so am I. Everybody loves an intelligent, respectable, military guy with charisma. It doesn't hurt that he is critical of how we handled/are handling Iraq , either.

I agree with curtis. Not long ago I laughed at the idea of $12 a month just for the Tivo service. But after switching to DirecTV with DVR2 Tivo a couple months ago, I'd *gladly* pay the extra money (though I don't have to )

Did you get the DVR2?

Be prepared to never leave the couch!

There was only one option for DirecTV with TiVo. It did say I coulre record two channels at once, though.

The DVR2 is the only one you can get now new. The original DirecTiVo is no longer being made. Not a whole lot of difference in the two....the new one has some capabilities in the hardware that have not been utilized yet.

Did the original have dual tuners? For me that sealed the deal. When my cable company went to digital delivery for anolog service (don't ask), I could no longer watch one show and record another. With the DVR2, 2 shows can be recorded simultaneously while watching a 3rd! None of the standard Tivo units can do that.

Yes...the DirecTiVo hardware always was dual tuner, but the software was not able to support it until later. The software has been capable for almost two years now I think.

The standalones do not have dual tuners, but they do have some other functions that are nice that the DirecTV units don't.

Hehehe... Just ordered the Dish/OTA combo unit directly from Dish Network for $298 -- one less box cluttering my electronics shelves. James, a new member here (don't know his handle name yet) informed me of the end-of-product-life sale for the unit; thanks, James! I didn't want to wait till a decent OTA PVR model comes out anyway.

Doug, thanks for the detailed info. I would surely have bought the Samsung, if I weren't aware of the Dish promo.

Every time I learn something new about president Bush, I need to check out from reality for an additional year.

(Courtesy of Rick Mercer from This Hour Has 22 Minutes)

On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America. We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry.

I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron.

He is a moron but, it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he is a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all, it's not like you actually elected him.

I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.

I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.

I'm sorry we burnt down your white house during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! Nice Job.

I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but, we Feel your Pain.

I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you wanna have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.

And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this.

We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.

Thank you

Shawn

No problem Sushi. I get my Dish Network 6000u with the OTA card on Saturday. I will let you know how it goes. For $298 I too could not pass this deal up. I just got my Mit. 65413 2 weeks ago and was very anxious to see how HD looked on the set. I am very happy with how SD D.N. programs look. I will still use my PVR receiver for SD programing though.

By the way, I have been a long time luker on this board. I bought my M60's, VP150 and Q8's about 2 months ago. After I got my speakers I felt that my Onkyo 777 did not do them justice, so I picked up a Parasound 2205 amp (220W X 5). They sound soooo much better now.
