Just curious if any of you have used Audiogon to sell AV equipment? Have the transactions gone well, any problems?

Also, do you just require the buyer to send you cashiers check/money order in advance? I want to make sure I get payed before I ship anything. Not sure I want to use Paypal as i think there is a transaction fee or something, I suppose I could just add that to the price.

Thanks in advance, Randy

I have bought and sold several items and had only one problem with somone who sold me a defective amp a couple of years ago. Like all internet commerce you need to make sure you know who you are transacting with. Disregard the ratings at Audiogon. The people who run the site make it almost impossible to post a negative rating because they believe it discourages people like yourself from using the site. I try to use paypal for all internet business because it protects buyer and seller...ie you can reverse the funds if something goes amiss. To me its worth the 3% charge and the convention is that the buyer pays.

I bought an amplifier on Audiogon and sent a bank check and it cleared before the amp was sent to me.

I would think a certified Bank Check, or a personal check (of course I would wait until it clears) would be a safe route?

Randy, I've always wanted to try posting some ads at Audiogon, but fear of problems has kept me away so far. I'm thinking a certified bank check, personal check, and Paypal transaction are the safest bets.

Actually, I think me bigger fear is shipping damage. Insurance is great and everything, but I've had to deal with UPS numerous times at work and don't have confidence in them for a resolution if anything happens.

I've had pretty good luck with the US Postal Service, but I don't think they take as heavy packages as UPS, DHL, or FedEx. When I shipped back my mansfield Axioms the surrounds and center when US Postal, and the M60's and 350v1 went DHL. \:\)

Yeah, when I shipped my M40s back I used UPS. I was nervous they wouldn't make it in one piece back to Axiom.

By the way, what are you thinking of selling?

I figured that would come up. \:\) I've been going back/forth about considering the new Axiom amp. I've got a nice tax return coming in, as well as every March our company gives out a "bonus" based on how the company does. This year it is a nice chunk of change.

Although this would be a very hard decision to make, I was tossing around the idea of parting with my awesome Odyssey monoblocks, to help fund the purchase of the 1400. I'm pretty torn on this idea, because I really love these amps specially built by Klaus with all the upgrades.

Part of the reason is I don't have any room to display the mono's in my AV opening. One has to sit back in the closet all by it's lonesome. One nice thing is the 20year warranty is transferable.

I knew you'd break down eventually. ;\)

Tough decision, but in reality, the Axiom amp will give you a little more flexibility with its smaller size and ability to run all channels.

I'd love to take those off your hands, but I didn't get a bonus at work this year. \:\(

Bonus? What's that? I can't remember the last time I had a position in a company that gave bonuses. My company thinks they do us a favor by giving us a paycheck.
